...WINTER STORM ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 4 PM CST WEDNESDAY...

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 4 PM CST WEDNESDAY...

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER CENTRAL LOUISIANA AT 3 PM CST WILL
CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARD MIDDLE TENNESSEE DURING THE AFTERNOON
AND EVENING. RAIN HAS SPREAD NORTHWARD INTO THE MEMPHIS AREA AND
ACROSS NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI AND NORTH ALABAMA AND WAS NEARING THE
TENNESSEE...ALABAMA BORDER AT 3 PM. THE RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO
SPREAD NORTHEAST AND INTO THE NASHVILLE AREA BETWEEN 5 PM AND 6 PM.
RAINFALL WILL INCREASE THIS EVENING AS THE LOW CENTER GETS CLOSER
TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE. LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS
SYSTEM TONIGHT. WE ARE EXPECTING A TOTAL OF ONE TO TWO INCHES OF
RAINFALL FROM THIS STORM SYSTEM WITH THE HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER THE
SOUTHEAST HALF OF THE MID STATE.

THE SYSTEM MAY ALSO GENERATE ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER
THE AREA...SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40 TONIGHT. THE GREATEST THREAT
FROM SEVERE STORMS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.

GIVEN THE INTENSITY OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THE STORM WILL
ALSO GENERATE STRONG WINDS OVER THE AREA TONIGHT AND ON WEDNESDAY.
EXPECT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 40 MPH.

MUCH COLDER AIR WILL POUR INTO THE REGION BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT
IN THE NORTHWEST AND SPREAD EAST DURING THE DAY WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL
SLOWLY CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION FROM RAIN TO SNOW. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS
OF ONE INCH OR LESS CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHWEST MIDDLE TENNESSEE
ON WEDNESDAY...BUT LOCALLY UP TO 2 INCHES IS POSSIBLE IN STEWART
COUNTY. THE SNOW COULD CAUSE SOME TRAVEL PROBLEMS IN AREAS SUCH AS
CLARKSVILLE AND DOVER.

SNOWFALL TRIVIA FOR NASHVILLE:

SNOWIEST DECEMBER ON RECORD WAS IN 1963 WHEN 13.2 INCHES FELL.

THE LAST TIME SNOW FELL IN NASHVILLE WAS ON FEBRUARY 19TH WHEN
0.2 INCH WAS MEASURED.
