...STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HEADING FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE...

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER WESTERN LOUISIANA AT NOON WILL
CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARD MIDDLE TENNESSEE THIS AFTERNOON
AND EVENING WITH RAIN SPREADING OUT AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM THAT WILL
MOVE INTO SOUTHWEST MIDDLE TENNESSEE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND INTO
THE NASHVILLE AREA AROUND 6 PM. RAINFALL WILL INCREASE THIS EVENING
AS THE LOW CENTER GETS CLOSER TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE. LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS SYSTEM TONIGHT. WE ARE EXPECTING A
TOTAL OF ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL FROM THIS STORM SYSTEM WITH
THE HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER THE SOUTHEAST HALF OF THE MID STATE.

THE SYSTEM MAY ALSO GENERATE ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER
THE AREA...SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40 TONIGHT. THE GREATEST THREAT
FROM SEVERE STORMS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.

GIVEN THE INTENSITY OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THE STORM WILL
ALSO GENERATE STRONG WINDS OVER THE AREA TONIGHT AND ON WEDNESDAY.
EXPECT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 35
MPH.

MUCH COLDER AIR WILL POUR INTO THE REGION BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT
IN THE NORTHWEST AND SPREAD EAST DURING THE DAY WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL
SLOWLY CHANGE THE PRECIPITATION FROM RAIN TO SNOW. FORTUNATELY THE
LOW WILL TRACK RIGHT ACROSS THE AREA AND PULL OUT OF THE AREA IN
THE AFTERNOON ON WEDNESDAY. THIS SHOULD LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF
SNOWFALL TO AROUND ONE INCH OR LESS.

SNOWFALL TRIVIA FOR NASHVILLE:

SNOWIEST DECEMBER ON RECORD WAS IN 1963 WHEN 13.2 INCHES FELL.

THE LAST TIME SNOW FELL IN NASHVILLE WAS ON FEBRUARY 19TH WHEN
0.2 INCH WAS MEASURED.
