THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
SOUTHERN AND EASTERN KENTUCKY
MIDDLE AND EASTERN TENNESSEE
EXTREME SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA
EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 245 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.
HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 50
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 55 MILES WEST OF
FORT CAMPBELL KENTUCKY TO 50 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF KNOXVILLE

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...STORMS WERE INCREASING ALONG RESIDUAL FRONT/WIND SHIFT
SETTLING INTO VERY UNSTABLE AIRMASS ACROSS KY/TN BORDER EAST INTO
THE APPALACHIANS. MEANWHILE...BAND OF STRONGER NWLY FLOW ALOFT IS
SPREADING SEWD TOWARD THIS AREA AND SHOULD AID IN STORM ORGANIZATION
THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON. EXPECT NUMEROUS MULTICELLULAR AND
OCCASIONAL SUPERCELLULAR STORMS TO BE CAPABLE OF SCATTERED LARGE
HAIL AND STRONG TO LOCALLY SEVERE DOWNBURST WINDS. SOME OF THIS
ACTIVITY MAY CONGEAL INTO ONE OR TWO MCSS TOWARD EVENING WITH WIND
DAMAGE AND HAIL POTENTIAL INCREASING ACROSS SRN PORTIONS OF THE
WATCH AREA/TN VALLEY.
AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
