...AURORA BOREALIS VISIBLE THROUGHOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE...
NUMEROUS REPORTS THIS EVENING INDICATE THE AURORA BOREALIS IS
VISIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE.
THE AURORA BOREALIS...ALSO KNOWN AS THE NORTHERN LIGHTS...IS A
LUMINOUS GLOW IN THE SKY CAUSED BY ENERGETIC PARTICLES FROM THE
SUN INTERACTING WITH GASES IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE OF EARTH.
AURORAS ARE COMMONLY VIEWED IN HIGH LATITUDES CLOSER TO THE NORTH
POLE SUCH AS ALASKA AND CANADA...BUT IT IS UNUSUAL TO SEE AURORAS
AS FAR SOUTH AS TENNESSEE.
THE AURORA BOREALIS MAY CONTINUE TO BE VISIBLE TONIGHT MAINLY IN
DARK RURAL AREAS AWAY FROM BRIGHT CITY LIGHTS. LOOK TOWARDS THE
NORTHERN SKY FOR REDDISH...GREEN...OR BLUE GLOWING AREAS.
