PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1128 AM CDT MON APR 11 2011

...NUMEROUS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE TN
VALLEY AND MID SOUTH THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF POTENTIALLY WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW
TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE TN VALLEY AND MID SOUTH THIS AFTERNOON
AND TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

       ALABAMA
       KENTUCKY
       MISSISSIPPI
       TENNESSEE

ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM THE LOWER GREAT
LAKES AND WESTERN NEW ENGLAND INTO THE GULF COAST STATES...

A STRONG UPPER-LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS WILL MOVE
INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY LATER TODAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL BE
ACCOMPANIED BY JET STREAM WINDS IN EXCESS OF 100 MPH AND SURFACE
COLD FRONT WHICH WILL ADVANCE EASTWARD THROUGH THE TENNESSEE AND
LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEYS AND CENTRAL GULF COAST STATES BY EARLY
TUESDAY. AS THIS FRONT ENCOUNTERS A WARM AND HUMID AIR MASS BEING
TRANSPORTED NORTHWARD FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO...NUMEROUS SEVERE
STORMS ARE ANTICIPATED.

DUE TO THE STRENGTHENING WINDS IN THE ATMOSPHERE...THE POTENTIAL
WILL EXIST FOR WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW TORNADOES THIS
AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT FROM CENTRAL KENTUCKY AND MIDDLE TENNESSEE
INTO NORTHERN PARTS OF MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA. WHILE THE NUMBER OF
SEVERE STORMS IS EXPECTED TO DECREASE WITH TIME TONIGHT...THE THREAT
FOR DAMAGING WINDS WILL STILL CONTINUE ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA INTO
WESTERN AND CENTRAL PARTS OF GEORGIA.

STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
TODAY.
