...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NASHVILLE, TN HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR
THE FOLLOWING RIVERS IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE...
CUMBERLAND RIVER AT CARTHAGE AFFECTING SMITH COUNTY
.HEAVY RAIN THIS WEEKEND HAS BROUGHT WIDESPREAD FLOODING TO AREA
CREEKS AND RIVERS, WITH RECORD OR NEAR-RECORD CRESTS IN SEVERAL
LOCATIONS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
AVOID FLOODED AREAS ALONG THE RIVER...AND MOVE PERSONAL BELONGINGS TO HIGHER
GROUND. NEVER DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED ROADS AS THE DEPTH OF WATER MAY BE TOO GREAT
TO PASS...EVEN IN TRUCKS OR SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. IF YOU COME ACROSS A FLOODED
ROAD...TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN.

* FLOOD WARNING FOR
THE CUMBERLAND RIVER AT CARTHAGE
* FROM EARLY THIS MORNING UNTIL THIS AFTERNOON.
* AT 12AM MONDAY THE STAGE WAS...39.7 FEET
* MODERATE FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 40.0 FEET.
* FORECAST TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY AFTER MIDNIGHT THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE
TO RISE TO NEAR 43.0 FEET BY THIS MORNING. THE RIVER WILL FALL BELOW FLOOD
STAGE BY LATE THIS MORNING.
* AT 45.0 FEET...FLOOD WATERS REACH THE LEVEL OF THE RAILROAD TRACKS.
* AT 43.0 FEET...FLOOD WATERS APPROACH UPPER FERRY RD...BLAIR RD...AND SOME
HOMES LOCATED IN LOW-LYING AREAS OF CARTHAGE.
* AT 40.0 FEET...BOTH BANKS BEGIN TO OVERFLOW. FLOOD WATERS INUNDATE BOTTOMLAND
ALONG THE RIVER.
* AT 37.0 FEET...BACKWATER FROM THE CUMBERLAND RIVER WILL REACH THE WATERVALE
COMMUNITY. SEVERAL HOMES AND MOBILE HOMES WILL BE FLOODED.
