A REINFORCING ARCTIC AIRMASS HAD DOVE DOWN THROUGH THE NORTHERN
PLAINS WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO BELOW ZERO ACROSS
THE DAKOTAS ALREADY THIS EVENING. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE ARCTIC
AIRMASS HAS NOW MOVED DOWN INTO WESTERN MISSOURI...ALREADY
RESULTING IN SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION ACROSS THIS REGION.
THE ARCTIC AIR WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO PORTIONS OF WESTERN MIDDLE
TENNESSEE DURING THE MID MORNING HOURS ON THURSDAY...AS A COLD
FRONT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE MID STATE
AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE ARCTIC AIRMASS IS
EXPECTED TO PASS THROUGH THE NASHVILLE METROPOLITAN AREA DURING
THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS...AND ACROSS THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU
REGION BY THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS. BEHIND THIS FRONTAL
PASSAGE...WINDS WILL BE SHIFTING TO THE WEST AND THEN TO THE
NORTHWEST...BECOMING GUSTY AS THE AFTERNOON HOURS PROGRESS.
MOISTURE WILL BE INCREASING ACROSS THE MID STATE ALONG AND AHEAD
OF THE FRONTAL PASSAGE...AND AS A RESULT...WITH TEMPERATURES
EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW FREEZING...MOST LOCATIONS WILL BE
EXPERIENCING SNOWFALL. SNOW SHOULD START FALLING AS SOON AS
3 AM ACROSS WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE MID STATE. AS THE DAY
PROGRESSES...TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO TWO INCHES ARE
POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MAJORITY OF THE MID STATE...WITH UP TO THREE
INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE HIGHLAND RIM AND CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU REGIONS BY 6 PM THURSDAY EVENING.
EXERCISE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING ON AREA ROADWAYS ON THURSDAY...
ESPECIALLY HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS.
