HOW COLD WAS THIS PAST MONTH IN NASHVILLE? THE FIRST 13 DAYS TIED
1942 FOR THE COLDEST FIRST 13 DAYS OF ANY JANUARY ON RECORD...WITH
AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 22.3 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
THE MONTH AT NASHVILLE AIRPORT WAS 33 DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.8 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. ALSO...IT WAS THE 18TH COLDEST JANUARY ON RECORD...AND
THE COLDEST SINCE 2003. ONE PERSON IN NASHVILLE WAS KILLED BY THE
COLD WEATHER. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 62 ON THE 19TH AND
21ST...WHILE THE COLDEST WAS 8 DEGREES ON THE 10TH. TOTAL
PRECIPITATION WAS 4.13 INCHES...WHICH IS 0.16 INCH ABOVE NORMAL.
SNOWFALL WAS 4.6 INCHES...WHICH BRINGS US TO NEAR NORMAL FOR THE
SEASON.
CROSSVILLE AVERAGED 30.7 DEGREES FOR THE MONTH...4.4 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS 57 DEGREES ON THE 15TH AND
19TH...WHILE THE COLDEST WAS 7 ON THE 8TH. TOTAL PRECIPITATION WAS
6.2 INCHES...WHICH IS 1.05 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
CLARKSVILLE AVERAGED 31.4 DEGREES FOR THE MONTH AND TABULATED
2.00 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS 62 DEGREES
ON THE 21ST...AND THE COLDEST WAS 4 ON THE LAST DAY.
THERE WERE SEVERAL WEATHER EVENTS DURING THE MONTH. ON THE 7TH
THROUGH THE 9TH...1 TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW WAS REPORTED ACROSS THE MID
STATE. THE ICY CONDITIONS AND THE COLD BECAME THE MAIN
STORY...HOWEVER...AND SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED FOR 2 DAYS.
ON THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING OF THE 21ST...NUMEROUS REPORTS OF HAIL
WERE RECEIVED...MAINLY ACROSS THE EAST. ON THE LATE AFTERNOON OF THE
24TH...AN EF-0 TORNADO WAS REPORTED IN NORTHERN ROBERTSON
COUNTY...WITH MINOR DAMAGE REPORTED.
FINALLY...ON THE AFTERNOON AND NIGHT OF THE 29TH...AN AVERAGE OF 3-6
INCHES OF SNOW WAS RECORDED ACROSS THE MID STATE. SLEET AND FREEZING
RAIN BECAME A PROBLEM ACROSS THE SOUTH...WITH SOME TREES DOWN AND
POWER OUTAGES. TWO DEATHS RESULTED FROM THE STORM...ONE IN FRANKLIN
COUNTY AND ONE IN MAURY COUNTY. FOR MANY...INCLUDING THE NASHVILLE
AREA...THIS WAS THE BIGGEST SNOW EVENT SINCE THE JAN 16TH STORM OF
2003.
