WAYNE-LAWRENCE-GILES-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...WAYNESBORO...LAWRENCEBURG...PULASKI
1222 AM CDT TUE SEP 8 2009
.NOW...
...SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY CONTINUES FOR WEST CENTRAL GILES
AND EAST CENTRAL LAWRENCE COUNTIES UNTIL 145 AM CDT...
AS OF 1221 AM...AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUES TO
MOVE SOUTHEAST AT AROUND 15 MPH ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
WAYNE...SOUTHERN LAWRENCE...AND INTO SOUTHERN GILES COUNTY. AREAS
WITH THE BEST CHANCE OF RECEIVING RAINFALL WILL BE ALONG AND SOUTH
OF A WAYNESBORO...TO LAWRENCEBURG...TO PULASKI LINE THROUGH 145
AM.
SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS COULD BE STRONG...WITH DANGEROUS CLOUD TO
GROUND LIGHTNING...STRONG WINDS...AND LOCALIZED VERY HEAVY
DOWNPOURS.
SOME LOCATIONS ACROSS EASTERN LAWRENCE COUNTY SOUTH OF
LAWRENCEBURG HAVE HAD THREE TO FOUR INCHES OF RAINFALL WITHIN THE
PAST HOUR...AND UP TO SIX INCHES OVER THE LAST THREE HOURS. LOCATIONS
NEAR AND JUST SOUTHEAST OF PULASKI HAVE HAD THREE HOURLY RAINFALL TOTALS
OF AROUND THREE INCHES.
OVERALL...SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM STRENGTH IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN OVER
TIME AND MOST OF THIS ACTIVITY SHOULD BE IN NORTHERN ALABAMA BY
145 AM.
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON
SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND PONDING OF WATER ON COUNTRY ROADS AND
FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.
