PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1104 AM CDT FRI JUN 12 2009
...SIGNIFICANT SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE
SOUTHERN PLAINS INTO LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY INTO TONIGHT...
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL OVER PARTS OF THE
SOUTHERN PLAINS INTO LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY INTO TONIGHT.
THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL ARKANSAS
NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI
EASTERN OKLAHOMA
SOUTHWESTERN TENNESSEE
ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS
TO CAROLINA COASTS.
A VERY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS IS IN PLACE THIS MORNING OVER THE
SOUTHERN PLAINS AND GULF STATES TO THE SOUTH OF A STATIONARY
BOUNDARY STRETCHING FROM OKLAHOMA SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGH ARKANSAS AND
NORTHERN PARTS OF MISSISSIPPI...ALABAMA AND GEORGIA. AN UPPER AIR
DISTURBANCE HAS AIDED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
COMPLEX OVER NORTHERN OKLAHOMA THIS MORNING...JUST TO THE NORTH OF
THE SURFACE FRONT. THIS THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX IS FORECAST TO
PROGRESS SOUTHEASTWARD ALONG THE FRONT THROUGH ARKANSAS INTO PARTS
OF SOUTHWESTERN TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI BY LATE AFTERNOON
OR THIS EVENING.
GIVEN THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY AND MODERATELY STRONG VERTICAL
SHEAR...THE ENVIRONMENT WILL BE SUPPORTIVE OF WIDESPREAD DAMAGING
WINDS AND DESTRUCTIVE HAIL IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE THUNDERSTORM
COMPLEX. OTHER SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE HAIL WILL BE
POSSIBLE LATER TODAY OVER OKLAHOMA INTO PARTS OF NORTHERN AND
WESTERN TEXAS ALONG THE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY TRAILING THE THUNDERSTORM
COMPLEX AS WELL AS ALONG THE DRYLINE.
STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
TODAY.
