...SEVERE WEATHER AGAIN POSSIBLE TODAY AND THIS EVENING IN MIDDLE
TENNESSEE...
A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WAS CENTERED NEAR MEMPHIS THIS MORNING...
AND WILL LIFT NORTHWARD INTO SOUTHERN ILLINOIS BY NOON TODAY...WITH
A COLD FRONT EXTENDING SOUTHWARD FROM THE LOW ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI
RIVER. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP AHEAD OF
THE COLD FRONT LATER THIS MORNING...AND MOVE EASTWARD DURING THE
DAY AND INTO THE EVENING. A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD BECOME
SEVERE IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE DURING THE LATE MORNING...AND INTO THE
AFTERNOON...AND DURING THE EVENING. THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE
DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...BUT ISOLATED TORNADOES ALSO
POSSIBLE.
APRIL AND MAY ARE PEAK SEVERE WEATHER MONTHS IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE.
THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW TORNADO SAFETY RULES...
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE...SEEK SHELTER IN A NEARBY REINFORCED
BUILDING. AS A LAST RESORT...SEEK SHELTER IN A CULVERT...DITCH OR LOW
SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.
THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. GET UNDER A
WORKBENCH OR OTHER PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE. IF NO BASEMENT IS
AVAILABLE...SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN
INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO
COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.
IF IN MOBILE HOMES OR VEHICLES...EVACUATE THEM AND GET INSIDE A
SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. IF NO SHELTER IS AVAILABLE...LIE FLAT IN THE
NEAREST DITCH OR OTHER LOW SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.
PLEASE STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND FORECASTS ON THIS SEVERE WEATHER THREAT.
