...A WET AND STORMY APRIL...
APRIL AVERAGED 58.1 DEGREES AT THE AIRPORT...WHICH IS .4 DEGREE
BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE FIRST MONTH OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES
SINCE LAST APRIL. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS 84 DEGREES ON THE 25TH
AND THE COLDEST WAS 31 DEGREES ON THE 15TH. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
THE MONTH WAS 7.20 INCHES...WHICH IS 3.93 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
THERE WERE SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENTS DURING THE MONTH. THE
FIRST WAS ON THE THIRD AND FOURTH WHEN FLOODING RAINS VISITED THE
MID STATE. BETWEEN 3 AND 4 INCHES OF RAIN FELL OVER WEST...NORTHWEST
AND NORTH CENTRAL SECTIONS. LOCAL 4 TO 5 INCH AMOUNTS WERE REPORTED.
MANY SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS WERE PUSHED OUT OF THEIR BANKS. THE
RED RIVER NEAR PORT ROYAL...THE GARRISON FORK NEAR WARTRACE...AND
THE TENNESSEE RIVER AT PERRYVILLE ALL EXPERIENCED MINOR FLOODING
PROBLEMS. ON A POSITIVE NOTE...THESE RAINS AND SUBSEQUENT LATER
RAINS DURING THE MONTH WENT A LONG WAY TOWARD ALLEVIATING THE
DROUGHT CONDITIONS.
ON THE 11TH...TORNADOES RIPPED ACROSS THE MID STATE. LAWRENCE AND
GILES COUNTY SAW MOST OF THE DAMAGE CAUSING 5 INJURIES. OTHER DAMAGE
FROM TORNADOES WAS REPORTED IN DICKSON...BEDFORD...WARREN AND COFFEE
COUNTIES.
CROSSVILLE AVERAGED 55.5 DEGREES FOR THE MONTH...WHICH IS 0.3 DEGREE
ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS 78 DEGREES ON THE
TWENTY-THIRD AND 24TH...WHILE THE COLDEST WAS 31 ON THE 15TH. TOTAL
PRECIPITATION WAS 6.26 INCHES...WHICH IS 1.66 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
CLARKSVILLE HAS NO REPORT THIS MONTH DUE TO MISSING DATA FOR PARTS
OF THE MONTH.
