THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NASHVILLE HAS ISSUED A
* SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...
SOUTHERN WAYNE COUNTY IN TENNESSEE...
* UNTIL 100 PM CDT
* AT 1007 AM CDT...THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN WERE CONTINUING TO MOVE
ACROSS SOUTHERN PARTS OF WAYNE COUNTY...ESPECIALLY IN THE COLLINWOOD AREA.
DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATES RAINFALL TOTALS IN SOME PARTS OF SOUTHERN WAYNE
COUNTY WERE OVER THREE INCHES DURING THE PERIOD FROM 700 AM TO 1000 AM THIS
MORNING. ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS WILL LIKELY MOVE THROUGH THE AREA BETWEEN
NOW AND 100 PM THIS AFTERNOON.
MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON
SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...AND PONDING OF WATER ON COUNTRY ROADS AND
FARMLAND ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.
