...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH TORNADOES ARE EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF
THE LOWER OHIO AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS AND LOWER MI THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT...
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW STRONG...LONG-TRACK TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE
LOWER OHIO AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS AND LOWER MI THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT.
THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE
EXTREME NORTHEASTERN ARKANSAS
SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ILLINOIS
MUCH OF INDIANA
NORTHERN AND WESTERN KENTUCKY
CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
EXTREME WESTERN OHIO
WESTERN AND MIDDLE TENNESSEE
SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE EASTERN GULF COAST TO THE MID
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND UPPER GREAT LAKES.
VERY STRONG JET STREAM WILL TRANSLATE ACROSS THE MID MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY INTO LOWER MI LATER THIS EVENING. THIS STRONG DISTURBANCE
WILL SERVE TO DEEPEN THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER MINNESOTA AND
SHARPEN ATTENDANT FRONTAL BOUNDARY EXPECTED TO ARC SOUTHWARD ACROSS
WI...IL INTO AR BY EARLY EVENING.
VERY MOIST BUOYANT AIRMASS WILL SPREAD NORTHWARD AHEAD OF THIS
FRONTAL SYSTEM WHICH WILL CREATE A FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS BY MID-LATE AFTERNOON...INITIALLY ACROSS WI/IL/SERN
MO. THIS ACTIVITY WILL QUICKLY SPREAD DOWNSTREAM INTO MI/IND/WRN
KY/WRN TN THIS EVENING. STORM ROTATION IS LIKELY WITH MANY STORMS
AND TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE...A FEW OF WHICH MAY BE STRONG AND
LONG-LIVED. ADDITIONALLY...VERY DAMAGING WINDS MAY ACCOMPANY FAST
MOVING THUNDERSTORMS...ESPECIALLY AS THEY ORGANIZE INTO LONGER LINE
SEGMENTS.
WHILE THE GREATEST SEVERE COVERAGE IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE TN/LOWER
OH VALLEY REGION INTO LOWER MI...OTHER POTENTIALLY SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD EVOLVE ACROSS THE CENTRAL GULF STATES.
ISOLATED TORNADOES MAY BE NOTED WITH MORE SOUTHERLY
ACTIVITY...POSSIBLY WELL INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.
THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER
SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER
RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
