...ICY CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE LATE SATURDAY
NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...
A STORM SYSTEM APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS WILL BRING
WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION TO THE MID STATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY.
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE FREEZING WHEN THE PRECIPITATION
STARTS. HOWEVER, IN NORTHERN AREAS NEAR THE KENTUCKY STATE LINE AND
THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU, TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY DROP TO FREEZING BY
LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, PRODUCING THE
LIKELIHOOD OF A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN.
ELSEWHERE, A MIXTURE OF RAIN, SLEET, AND SNOW IS EXPECTED, BUT
TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY REMAIN WARM ENOUGH SO THAT ANY WINTRY
PRECIPITATION THAT FALLS SHOULD MELT.
AS SOUTHERLY WINDS INCREASE AHEAD OF THE STORM SYSTEM ON SUNDAY
MORNING, TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING, MEANING THAT ANY
WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL SWITCH OVER TO ALL RAIN. THE TRANSITION
FROM WINTRY PRECIPITATION TO RAIN WILL OCCUR FIRST IN AREAS TO THE
WEST AND SOUTHWEST OF NASHVILLE, POSSIBLY EVEN BEFORE DAYBREAK, WITH
THE WARM AIR THEN SPREADING EASTWARD TO THE REMAINDER OF MIDDLE
TENNESSEE.
DESPITE THE FORECAST OF RAIN ON SUNDAY, DRIVING CONDITIONS LATE
SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING MAY BE TREACHEROUS. AGAIN,
PERSONS LIVING IN COUNTIES ALONG THE KENTUCKY BORDER AND THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU ARE MOST VULNERABLE TO ICY CONDITIONS. MID STATE
RESIDENTS ARE THEREFORE URGED TO PLAN ACCORDINGLY AND KEEP POSTED ON
THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.
