ENDED ITS STREAK YESTERDAY...WHEN THE TEMPERATURE ONLY REACHED 88
DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR NASHVILLE WAS 31 CONSECUTIVE DAYS
BACK IN JUNE...OF 1952...AND TIED IN JUNE...OF 1954.
NASHVILLE ENDED A STREAK OF 24 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 95 DEGREES AND
ABOVE...ON AUGUST 25TH. THIS SHATTERED THE OLD RECORD WAS OF 19
DAYS...SET BACK IN JUNE 1952.
TO PUT THE RECENT HEAT WAVE IN PERSPECTIVE...THE 15 DAYS OF 100
DEGREES AND ABOVE IN NASHVILLE...IS MORE THAN TWICE WHAT OCCURRED IN
THE PREVIOUS 15 YEARS. FROM 1991 TO 2006...NASHVILLE ONLY HAD 6 DAYS
OF 100 DEGREES AND ABOVE.
NASHVILLE SET FIVE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS DURING THE
MONTH OF AUGUST...AND EITHER TIED OR BROKE...EIGHT...HIGHEST DAILY
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDS.
ON AUGUST 16TH...NASHVILLE HIT 106 DEGREES...SETTING A NEW ALL TIME
RECORD HIGH FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST...BREAKING A RECORD SET BACK
IN AUGUST 1930 AT 105 DEGREES. THE 106 DEGREES WAS ALSO...THE HOTTEST
TEMPERATURE IN NASHVILLE IN THE LAST 55 YEARS...ONLY SURPASSED BY THE
ALL TIME RECORD HEAT OF 107 DEGREES BACK ON JULY 27TH AND 28TH 1952.
ON AUGUST 10TH...A NEW RECORD...FOR THE HIGHEST DAILY MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST...WAS SET AT 82
DEGREES. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 81 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1930.
THERE HAS BEEN 15 DAYS OF 100 DEGREES OR ABOVE IN NASHVILLE THIS
AUGUST. THIS IS MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY DAYS AS PREVIOUSLY RECORDED
IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 7 DAYS SET BACK IN
1954. IT IS ALSO THE MOST EVER RECORDED IN ANY MONTH. THE PREVIOUS
RECORD WAS 11 DAYS BACK IN JUNE 1952. AS FOR THE SUMMER...BACK IN
1954...NASHVILLE HAD 20 DAYS OF TRIPLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES...AND IN
1952...WE HAD 19.
NASHVILLE ENDED A STRING OF SEVEN CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF TRIPLE
DIGIT HEAT ON AUGUST 19TH. THIS STRING IS ONLY EXCEEDED BY
THE EIGHT CONSECUTIVE DAYS BACK IN JUNE 1952.
CURRENTLY...AUGUST 2007 IS AVERAGING 9.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL IN
NASHVILLE. THIS IS 4.0 DEGREES HOTTER THAN THE HOTTEST AUGUST ON
RECORD...WHICH WAS IN 1995. AUGUST 2007 COULD ALSO END UP BEING THE
HOTTEST...OF ANY MONTH SINCE RECORD KEEPING BEGAN IN NASHVILLE...
NEARLY 137 YEARS AGO. THE HOTTEST MONTH ON RECORD IS JUNE 1952.
THE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE IN NASHVILLE THIS MONTH IS AVERAGING
99.1 DEGREES THROUGH AUGUST 29TH. THIS IS MORE THAN 11 DEGREES
ABOVE THE 30 YEAR AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF
AUGUST.
NASHVILLE IS ON TRACK FOR ONE OF THE HOTTEST JUNE THROUGH AUGUST
ON RECORD. SO FAR...JUNE THROUGH AUGUST OF THIS YEAR HAS BEEN THE
HOTTEST SINCE 1952.
RAINFALL AT THE NASHVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT...HAS TOTALED
1.38 INCHES SO FAR THIS MONTH. NORMAL RAINFALL FOR AUGUST IS 3.28
INCHES. NASHVILLE...IS ON TRACK TO HAVE ONE OF THE DRIEST AUGUSTS ON
RECORD. THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD...WAS BACK IN 1929 WHEN ONLY 0.51
INCHES FELL. OTHER DRY AUGUSTS INCLUDE...1936...1968 AND 1987.
SINCE THE FIRST OF JUNE...NASHVILLE HAS RECORDED ONLY 5.22 INCHES
OF RAINFALL. THIS IS 5.68 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE DRIEST JUNE
THROUGH AUGUST ON RECORD...WAS IN 1954...WHEN ONLY 4.74 INCHES OF
