NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
241 PM CST THU NOV 17 2005

...NWS STORM SURVEY IN WAYNE COUNTY...

THE NWS OFFICE IN NASHVILLE AND THE WAYNE COUNTY EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCY CONDUCTED A SURVEY OF THE DAMAGE PRODUCED
BY STORMS THAT OCCURRED ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

THE SURVEY FOUND THAT A TORNADO FIRST TOUCHED DOWN JUST SOUTH
OF COLLINWOOD ALONG HIGHWAY 13 NEAR SHACKELFORD FUNERAL HOME. THE
TORNADO MOVED NORTHEAST AND DAMAGED SEVERAL HOMES AND SNAPPED OFF
NUMEROUS LARGE TREES ALONG AYERS ROAD. A BARN WAS DESTROYED NEAR THE
INTERSECTION OF AYERS ROAD AND MILLROCK. SEVERAL HOMES NEAR THE
INTERSECTION RECEIVED SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. TWO TRAILER
HOMES WERE DAMAGED AND MOVED OFF THEIR FOUNDATIONS. THE TORNADO
CONTINUED TO MOVE NORTHEAST AND DID SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE
MILLROCK BAPTIST CHURCH. ALONG SHAWNETTEE ROAD, MORE HOMES WERE
DAMAGED AND NUMEROUS TRESS WERE DOWNED. BETWEEN LITTLE SHAWNETTEE
ROAD AND DOUBLE BRANCH ROAD, A HOME WAS NEARLY DESTROYED. THIS WAS
THE LAST EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE FROM THIS STORM IN WAYNE COUNTY.

ONLY ONE INJURY WAS REPORTED. A WOMEN WAS INJURED WHILE INSIDE
HER HOUSE ON SHAWNETTEE ROAD WHEN THE TORNADO MOVED THE HOUSE OFF THE
FOUNDATION.

THE PATH OF THE TORNADO WAS ESTIMATED TO BE 6 MILES IN LENGTH AND
ABOUT 100 YARDS WIDE. THE INTENSITY OF THE TORNADO WAS ESTIMATED TO
BE F2 (WINDS (113-157 MPH) ON THE FUJITA TORNADO INTENSITY SCALE.
EXACT TIMES OF OCCURANCE ARE YET TO BE DETERMINED BUT APPEAR TO BE
BETWEEN 6:00 AND 7:00 PM.

DAMAGE IN WESTERN WAYNE COUNTY NEAR LUTTS AND HOUSTON WAS REPORTED
EARLIER IN THE DAY, AROUND 4:30 TO 5:00 PM. THE ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE
FROM THIS AREA WAS THAT STRAIGHT LINE WINDS BLEW DOWN AN OUT BUILDING
NEAR LUTTS AND SEVERAL TRESS NEAR LUTTS AND HOUSTON.

ADDITIONAL STORM SURVEYS WILL BE RELEASED AS SOON AS THEY BECOME
AVAILABLE.
