THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NASHVILLE IS CONTINUING THE
HEAT ADVISORY FOR THE WESTERN TWO THIRDS OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE.
THE WARM UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM ASSOCIATED WITH THIS HEAT
WAVE WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE MID STATE TODAY. TEMPERATURES ARE
EXPECTED TO BE SIMILAR TO YESTERDAY WITH READINGS IN THE MIDDLE TO
UPPER 90S ACROSS THE WESTERN TWO THIRDS OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE. HIGH
HUMIDITIES WILL GIVE HEAT INDICES RANGING FROM 103 TO 108 THIS
AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.
A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN HIGH HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO
COMBINE WITH HOT TEMPERATURES TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 105
DEGREES OR GREATER DURING THE DAY...AND 80 DEGREES OR GREATER AT
NIGHT.
PEOPLE IN THE ADVISORY AREA ARE ADVISED TO AVOID PROLONGED WORK
IN THE SUN...OR IN POORLY VENTILATED AREAS. ALSO...KEEP PLENTY OF
WATER ON HAND...AND TRY TO STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED BUILDING.
CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY AND PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC AILMENTS ARE USUALLY
THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT. HEAT EXHAUSTION...CRAMPS OR...
IN EXTREME CASES...HEAT STROKE CAN RESULT FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO
THESE CONDITIONS. FRIENDS...RELATIVES...OR NEIGHBORS SHOULD
CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK.
ALSO...NEVER LEAVE PETS AND CHILDREN IN A HOT VEHICLE FOR EVEN A
MINUTE...AS TEMPERATURES CAN QUICKLY SOAR TO DEADLY HEIGHTS.
