THE SUMMER OF 2004 HAS TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THE COOLEST ON
RECORD. DURING THE ENTIRE SEASON, THERE HAVE BEEN 20 DAYS WHEN
NASHVILLE'S TEMPERATURE CLIMBED TO 90 DEGREES OR GREATER. THIS
REPRESENTS THE FOURTH FEWEST 90 DEGREE DAYS EVER OBSERVED IN ONE
YEAR.
IN 1889 THERE WERE 11 SUCH DAYS, AND THE YEARS OF 1910 AND 1920 TIE
FOR SECOND PLACE, WITH 18 DAYS AT 90 DEGREES OR WARMER. THIS YEAR'S
TALLY OF 20 SUCH DAYS TIES FOR FOURTH PLACE WITH 1882, 1917, AND
1967.
THE RECORD FOR MOST 90 DEGREE DAYS IN ONE YEAR IS 96, WHICH OCCURRED
IN 1954. ROUNDING OUT THE TOP FIVE ARE 82 DAYS IN 1980, 81 DAYS IN
1941 AND 1952, AND 80 DAYS IN 1944.
THE AVERAGE ANNUAL NUMBER OF 90 DEGREE DAYS THROUGHOUT NASHVILLE'S
134 YEARS OF RECORD KEEPING IS 47. LAST YEAR, THERE WERE 28 SUCH
