...A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT TONIGHT AND FRIDAY FOR THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...
THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM IVAN WAS LOCATED OVER CENTRAL AL AT 3
PM THIS AFTERNOON. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHWARD
OVERNIGHT AND WILL REACH THE CHATTANOOGA AREA AROUND SUNRISE FRIDAY
AND THEN THE CROSSVILLE TN AREA AROUND THE NOON HOUR.
AT REPORTING STATIONS ACROSS CENTRAL AL...WIND SPEEDS IN ASSOCIATION
WITH IVAN ARE GENERALLY IN THE 30 TO 40 MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS AS HIGH
AS 50 MPH. ISOLATED HIGHER WIND SPEEDS ARE LIKELY CLOSER TO THE
CENTER OF IVAN. LATE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY AS IVAN MOVES ACROSS THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...WIND SPEEDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS OF UP TO
40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE. WIND SPEEDS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN
DIMINISHING SOME ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
MOTORISTS...PARTICULARLY DRIVERS OF HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD
EXERCISE CAUTION AND SLOW DOWN AS THE HIGHER WIND SPEEDS WILL MAKE
FOR DIFFICULT DRIVING CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION...YOU SHOULD SECURE
ANY LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS THAT COULD GET BLOWN AROUND BY THE HIGHER
WINDS OR POTENTIAL GUSTS.
