...OCTOBER WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL...
OCTOBER CAME TO A CLOSE RIDING A WARM SPELL THAT BROUGHT NEAR RECORD
TEMPERATURES TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE. AT NASHVILLE, THE AVERAGE HIGH
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 73.4 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 55.5
DEGREES. AND THE MEAN TEMPERATURE OF 64.4 DEGREES WAS 4.5 DEGREES
ABOVE THE NORMAL VALUE FOR OCTOBER.
IN ADDITION, THE COOLEST TEMPERATURE OBSERVED DURING OCTOBER WAS 40
DEGREES. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1971 THAT NASHVILLIANS SAW AN
OCTOBER WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE READING BELOW 40 DEGREES.
OCTOBER WAS ALSO MUCH WETTER THAN NORMAL. ALTHOUGH OCTOBER IS
TYPICALLY THE DRIEST MONTH OF THE YEAR, 4.90 INCHES OF RAINFALL WERE
OBSERVED, WHICH WAS 2.03 INCHES MORE THAN NORMAL. THERE WERE 12 DAYS
WITH MEASUREBABLE PRECIPITATION THIS OCTOBER, COMPARED TO A NORMAL
VALUE OF 7.4 SUCH DAYS.
LOOKING AHEAD, THE SEASONAL OUTLOOK FOR NOVEMBER THROUGH JANUARY
CALLS FOR BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION
FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE.
