.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides recommended actions for people in Guam
and the Northern Marianas.

.Watches/Warnings...
A Typhoon Warning continues for Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

A Tropical storm warning and a Typhoon Watch continues for the
following locations, Guam.

A Flood Watch is in effect for all of Guam and the Northern
Marianas. Please listen closely for any Flood Warnings that might
be in effect for your area.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 1 AM ChST...the center of Tropical Storm Bolaven (15W) was located
near Latitude 12.3N...Longitude 148.0E. This was about 230 miles
east-southeast of Guam. Storm motion was northwest at 14 mph. Storm
intensity was 65 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Tropical Storm Bolaven is expected to pass between Rota and Tinian as
a category 1 or 2 typhoon this evening. Winds will be the biggest
threat followed by flooding and coastal inundation. Conditions will
begin to improve Wednesday.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For those under a warning...now is the time to rush to completion
preparations for the protection of life and property. Evacuate if
directed to do so by local officials...or if your home is
vulnerable to high winds or flooding. The arrival of damaging winds
is likely within the next several hours.

For interests at ports...docks...and marinas...urgently complete
prescribed preparations according to your emergency operations
plan for tropical cyclones. If you live on a boat...make final
preparations for securing your craft before leaving it.

Regarding any coastal waters under a warning...small craft should
remain in port and well secured.

Closely monitor NOAA weather radio or other local news outlets
for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to
the forecast.

location as further described by your local National Weather
Service office and local emergency management.

Make the final preparations to protect life and property. Rush to
completion the hardening of your home or business by closing
shutters and bracing garage doors.

If evacuating, leave as soon as possible. Guard against being
stuck out on roadways when dangerous winds and heavy rains
arrive. Again, do not stay in a mobile or manufactured home.
Remember, pets are not allowed in most official shelters, so
check ahead with your intended shelter.

If staying in a home, turn the refrigerator to maximum cold and
keep it closed. Turn off propane tanks and unplug small
appliances. Fill the bathtub with water in case the tap water
becomes unavailable after the storm. This is for cleaning and
flushing purposes. Do not drink it.

Typhoon conditions are expected this evening and tonight. This is a
steady trend since the last local statement.

...Winds...
As Tropical Storm Bolaven (15W) approaches, sustained tropical
storm force winds are expected to begin early this afternoon.
Maximum winds are forecast to be in the 50 to 60 mph range with
gusts to 80 mph. Damaging winds are likely. Most poorly anchored
corrugated roof homes will be damaged, some severely. Other homes
may have damage to shingles, siding, gutters and windows, especially
if these items are not properly secured. Loose outdoor items will
become airborne, causing additional damage and possible injury. Some
power lines will be knocked down by falling trees, resulting in
scattered power outages. Many large branches of trees will be snapped,
and a few trees will be uprooted.

...Coastal inundation and surf information...
Inundation of up to 8 feet is possible as Bolaven passes nearby,
especially during high tide around 6 PM Tuesday evening. Hazardous
surf conditions are expected beginning tonight and continuing
through at least Thursday. The highest surf conditions are
expected to begin along east and possibly south facing reefs on
Tuesday as Bolaven nears. Surf will increase and likely become
dangerous, exceeding 15 ft, for north and west facing reefs on
Wednesday as Bolaven passes to the northwest of the Marianas.

...Inland flooding...
A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. See latest
forecast for latest information. Listen for possible flood
warnings for your location...and be ready to act if flooding
rains occur.  Soils are already wet from previous rainfall, so it
won't take much to cause flooding.

increase, first coming from the north to northwest today, then
shifting to west to southwest as Bolaven passes to the north tonight.
The latest forecast is for tropical storm force winds from late this
morning to Wednesday morning and typhoon force winds from late this
afternoon to late this evening, peaking at 65 to 75 mph, gusting to
90 mph or higher.

...Coastal inundation and surf information...
Inundation of up to 6 feet is possible as Bolaven passes nearby,
especially during high tide around 6 PM this evening. Hazardous
surf conditions are expected beginning today and continuing
through at least Thursday. The highest surf conditions are
expected to begin along east and possibly south facing reefs today
as Bolaven nears. Surf will increase and likely become dangerous,
exceeding 15 ft, for north and west facing reefs on Wednesday as
Bolaven passes to the northwest of the Marianas.

As Bolaven moves closer, the threat for sustained high winds will
increase today, with winds coming from the northwest to west. Winds
will turn to the west to southwest as Bolaven passes to the north
tonight, then southwest as it pushes northwest of the Marianas on
Wednesday. The latest forecast is for tropical storm force winds
from this afternoon to early Wednesday morning, peaking in the late
afternoon and evening around 40 to 50 mph, gusting to 60 mph.

...Coastal inundation and surf information...
Inundation of up to 3 feet is possible as Bolaven passes to the
north, especially during high tide around 6 PM this evening.
Hazardous surf conditions are possible beginning today and
continuing through at least Thursday. The highest surf conditions
are expected to begin along east and possibly south facing reefs
today as Bolaven nears. Surf will increase and likely become
dangerous for north and west facing reefs on Wednesday as Bolaven
passes to the northwest of the Marianas.

The onset of tropical storm conditions could start as soon as
early Wednesday morning. The probability of tropical storm force
winds is 30 to 50 percent.

...WIND INFORMATION...
As Tropical Storm Bolaven moves closer, the threat for sustained
high winds is likely to increase. The latest forecast is for tropical
storm force winds from tonight to Wednesday night, peaking
Wednesday morning around 40 to 55 mph, gusting to 65 mph. A
general concern should be for the possibility of minor damage
somewhere within the area.

...COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION...
Inundation is likely to be minimal at this time, however conditions
could change.
