...TROPICAL DEPRESSION 17W MOVING WEST...

.NEW INFORMATION...
Tropical Depression 17W was repositioned slightly east and is currently
near 8.0 degrees North and 138.9 degrees East. 17W has slowed slightly
but continues to track westward towards the Koror and Kayangel.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Yap and Ngulu in Yap State and Koror and Kayangel in
the Republic of Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Yap and Ngulu in Yap State
and Kayangel and Koror in the Republic of Palau.

.STORM INFORMATION...
AT 7 PM ChST...the center of Tropical Depression 17W was located near
Latitude 8.0 degrees North and Longitude 138.9 degrees East. This was
located about 115 miles south of Yap and 305 miles east of Koror.
Storm motion was west at 8 mph. Storm intensity was 30 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Yap and Ngulu in Yap
State and Kayangel and Koror in the Republic of Palau. TD 17W is
expected to drift west, passing south of Yap and Ngulu through
Tuesday as it pushes towards Koror and Kayangel. TD 17W is expected
to intensify slowly through the end of the week possibly becoming a
tropical storm by Thursday morning near or west of Koror and
Kayangel. While intensification is forecast to be slow, a Tropical
Storm Watch remains in place for Yap and Ngulu in the result of TD
17W intensifying faster than projected.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by 3 AM ChST Tuesday morning
or sooner if needed.

...YAP AND NGULU...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Prepare for the possibility of damaging winds of 40 mph or more,
especially around heavier showers and thunderstorms. Residents
should take action to secure loose materials on property. Small Craft
should prepare to seek safe harbor. Damaging winds and rough surf
are possible within 48 hours. Passing heavy showers are already
occasionally occurring.

...WIND INFORMATION...
North to northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts to 40 mph are
possible through tonight, then becoming easterly Tuesday. The
strongest winds will likely be around the heaviest showers and
thunderstorms.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will be elevated along north and east facing reefs, driven by
winds, and may become hazardous at 9 feet or higher Tuesday. This
will create strong rip currents along north and east reefs. Combined
seas will be hazardous to small craft at 7 to 10 feet.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible through Tuesday.

...KOROR AND KAYANGEL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Prepare for the possibility of damaging tropical storm force winds
of 40 mph or more, especially around heavier showers and thunderstorms.
Residents should take action to secure loose materials on property.
Small Craft should prepare to seek safe harbor. Damaging winds, rough
surf, and heavy rain are possible within 48 hours.

...WIND INFORMATION...
North winds of 10 to 15 mph will slowly increase tonight and Tuesday.
Around Wednesday, wind directions will be more dependent on the
track of 17W. Locations to the north would see easterly winds; to the
south, westerly winds. Wind speeds will increase to between 25 and
35 mph with gusts of 45 mph or greater, especially near heavy showers
and thundestorms.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will be elevated along north and east facing reefs, driven by
winds, and may become hazardous at 9 feet or higher Tuesday. This
will create strong rip currents along north and east reefs. Combined
seas of 4 to 6 feet will increase through Wednesday, possibly
reaching to between 10 and 15 feet.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 4 to 6 inches is possible through Wednesday.
