.NEW INFORMATION...
Tropical storm warning is now in effect for Woleai and Faraulep.
Typhoon watch is now in effect for Yap, Fais, and Ulithi.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Faraulep, Woleai and Satawal in Yap State, as well as
for Yap, Fais and Ulithi

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A tropical storm warning is now in effect for Woleai and Faraulep.
Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours.

A typhoon watch is now in effect for Yap, Fais, and Ulithi. Damaging
winds of 39 mph or more are possible in the next 48 hours, possibly
reaching typhoon force of 74 mph or more.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Satawal. Damaging winds
of 39 mph or more are still possible this evening.

.STORM INFORMATION...

At 700 AM CHST...2100 UTC, Tropical Storm 02W was located near
Latitude 4.5 degrees North and Longitude 146.1 degrees East, about
250 miles southeast of Woleai. 02W is moving west-northwest at 9 mph.
Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TS 02W is expected to intensify over the next few days as it moves
through the islands of eastern Yap State. TD 02W is expected to move
northwest, passing between Yap proper and Guam on Sunday. Although
not expected to approach the Marianas at this time, residents of the
islands, especially Guam, should remain alert and monitor the latest
forecasts, watches, warnings and advisories.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather
Service at 300 PM this afternoon, or earlier if needed.

...SATAWAL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
The latest forecast track indicates that damaging winds are less
likely for Satawal. If TS 02W continues on its present track, the
tropical storm watch will likely be lowered this afternoon. In the
meantime, residents should take precautions by securing loose
outdoor objects which can be blown around. Canopies should be
removed or well secured. For mariners, small craft should remain in
safe harbor. Inter-island travel should be postponed.

...WIND INFORMATION...
TD 02W is expected to turn northwest today, taking the center well
southwest of Satawal tonight. As it moves by, east winds will become
southeast, increasing to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph this evening.
Damaging winds are still briefly possible early Saturday morning,
but south to southeast winds should subside later on Saturday.

...SEAS...
As TD 02W strengthens and passes Satawal, seas will build across
the area. Seas of 6 to 8 feet are possible this evening, building
to between 8 and 10 feet tonight into Saturday morning. Seas should
then subside Saturday morning as winds decrease and 02W moves
farther away from the island.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of up to 1 foot along
east to south facing reefs and shorelines. Inundation will be more
pronounced during high tide. Dangerous pounding surf could also
result in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 4 to 6 inches of
rainfall Friday into Saturday.

...WOLEAI...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Damaging winds are expected on Woleai by early Saturday morning.
Residents should complete preparations to protect life and property.
Make sure you have adequate supplies of food and water. Secure loose
outdoor objects which could be blown around. Canopies should be
removed or well secured. For mariners, small craft should remain in
safe harbor. Postpone any inter-island travel.

...WIND INFORMATION...
As TS 02W approaches Woleai, northeast winds will increase and
become damaging at 35 to 45 mph tonight after midnight. Winds will
peak at 50 to 60 mph as they turn to east and southeast around noon
or early afternoon. After TS 02W passes closest approach, winds will
shift to south and diminish to 35 to 45 mph Saturday evening, then
fall below damaging levels around midnight.

...SEAS...
As TS 02W strengthens and approaches Woleai, seas will build across
the area. Seas of 8 to 10 feet are possible tonight, building to
between 11 and 14 feet Saturday morning. Seas should then begin
to subside late Saturday night or Sunday morning as winds subside
and 02W moves away from the island.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of 2 to 4 feet along
north, then west facing reefs and shorelines. Inundation will be
more pronounced during high tide. Dangerous pounding surf could
result in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 6 to 9 inches of
rainfall today into Saturday.

...FARAULEP...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Damaging winds are expected on Faraulep from late Saturday morning
through Saturday evening. Residents should secure loose outdoor
objects which can be blown around, and canopies taken down well
secured. For mariners, small craft should remain in safe harbor.
Inter-island travel should be postponed.

...WIND INFORMATION...
As TS 02W approaches Faraulep, east winds will continue, then slowly
shift to southeast, increasing to damaging at 40 to 45 mph with
gusts to 55 mph Saturday afternoon and evening. Winds will then
shift to south and begin to subside Saturday night, falling below
damaging levels around midnight.

...SEAS...
As TS 02W strengthens and approaches Faraulep, seas will build across
the area. Seas of 8 to 10 feet are possible tonight, building to
between 9 and 12 feet Saturday morning. Seas should then subside
Sunday morning as winds decrease and 02W moves away from the island.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of 1 to 3 feet along
east and south facing reefs and shorelines. Inundation will be more
pronounced during high tide. Dangerous pounding surf could also
result in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 5 to 7 inches of
rainfall Friday into Saturday.

...YAP...ULITH AND FAIS...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Destructive winds are possible on Yap, Ulithi and Fais as TS 02W
moves through the islands on Sunday as a typhoon. Residents should
prepare for the possibility of destructive typhoon-force winds,
dangerous surf and coastal inundation and heavy rain. As currently
forecast, Ulithi and Fais are most likely to see typhoon conditions,
but a slight change of track to the left could put Yap in danger of
typhoon conditions.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Damaging tropical storm force winds are possible by late Sunday
morning, and typhoon force winds of 74 mph or more are possible
Sunday evening.

...SEAS...
Seas of 12 to 15 feet are possible as TS 02W strengthens into a
typhoon and approaches the islands on Sunday. Seas should subside
slowly by Monday morning as winds decrease and 02W moves away from
the region.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of 2 to 4 feet along
windward reefs and shorelines. Dangerous pounding surf could also
result in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 6 to 10 inches of
rainfall Sunday and Monday.
