This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people on Faraulep, Woleai and Satawal in Yap State.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Satawal, Woleai and
Faraulep in eastern Yap State.

.STORM INFORMATION...

At 700 PM CHST...0300 UTC, Tropical Depression 02W was located near
Latitude 4.2 degrees North and Longitude 147.3 degrees East. This is
about 220 miles south of Satawal. 02W is moving west-northwest at 10
mph and is expected to make a turn toward the northwest with a
decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours. This will take the
center west of Satawal. 02W is expected to intensify over the next
few days, possibly becoming a tropical storm Friday. Maximum
sustained winds are 30 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TD 02W is expected to intensify over the next few days as it
approaches the islands of eastern Yap State. Latest forecast shows
02W becoming a tropical storm within the next 24 hours as it moves
toward the northwest, passing midway between Yap proper and Guam.
Although not expected to approach the Marianas at this time,
residents of the islands, especially Guam, should remain alert and
monitor the latest forecasts, watches, warnings and advisories.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather
Service at 3 AM Friday morning, or earlier, if needed.

...SATAWAL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
the latest forecast track indicates that damaging winds are less
likely for Satawal, though the possibility does remain. Residents
should now take actions to protect life and property. The onset of
gusty winds and heavy rains will cause outside activities to become
dangerous. Secure loose outdoor objects which can be blown around.
Canopies should be removed and/or well secured. For mariners, small
craft should remain in safe harbor. Inter-island travel is strongly
discouraged Friday night into the weekend.

...WIND INFORMATION...
TD 02W is expected to make a turn toward the northwest, bringing the
center well west of Satawal. As the system moves by, east winds will
gradually become southeast, increasing to 25 mph with gusts to 35
mph early Friday evening. Damaging winds are still possible as early
as 2 AM Saturday morning, with southeast to south winds of 30 mph
gusting to 40 mph. Winds will begin to subside a few hours later.

...SEAS...
As TD 02W strengthens and approaches Satawal, seas will build across
the area. Seas of 6 to 8 feet are possible Friday evening, building
to between 8 and 10 feet Friday night into Saturday morning. Seas
should then begin to subside Saturday morning as winds subside and
02W moves farther away from the island.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of up to 1 foot along
east to south facing reefs and shorelines. Inundation will be more
pronounced during high tide. Dangerous pounding surf could also
result in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 4 to 6 inches of
rainfall Friday into Saturday.

...WOLEAI...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Damaging winds are possible on Woleai as early as 6 AM Saturday
morning. Residents should now take actions to protect life and
property. The onset of gusty winds and heavy rains will cause outside
activities to become dangerous. Secure loose outdoor objects which
can be blown around. Canopies should be removed and/or well secured.
For mariners, small craft should remain in safe harbor. Inter-island
travel is strongly discouraged for the weekend.

...WIND INFORMATION...
As TD 02W approaches Woleai, northeast winds continue through the
night, increasing to 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph Friday
night, with damaging winds of 40 mph gusting to 50 mph possible as
early as 6 AM Saturday. Winds could then increase further as they
turn toward the southeast then southwest through the day. Damaging
winds could remain over Woleai through Saturday night, possibly
ending near midnight.

...SEAS...
As TD 02W strengthens and approaches Woleai, seas will build across
the area. Seas of 8 to 10 feet are possible Friday night, building
to between 11 and 14 feet Saturday morning. Seas should then begin
to subside late Saturday night or Sunday morning as winds subside and
02W moves away from the island.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Storm surge could result in coastal inundation of 2 to 4 feet along
north, then west facing reefs and shorelines. Inundation will be
more pronounced during high tide. Dangerous pounding surf could
result also in coastal erosion. There is a potential of 6 to 9
inches of rainfall Friday into Saturday.

...FARAULEP...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Damaging winds are possible on Faraulep as early as Saturday
morning. Residents should now take actions to protect life and
property. The onset of gusty winds and heavy rains will cause outside
activities to become dangerous. Secure loose outdoor objects which
can be blown around. Canopies should be removed and/or well secured.
For mariners, small craft should remain in safe harbor. Inter-island
travel is strongly discouraged for the weekend.

shift southeastward, increasing to 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph
Saturday morning. Damaging winds of 40 mph gusting to 50 mph are
possible Saturday morning or early afternoon. Winds will then shift
toward the south and begin to subside Saturday evening. Damaging
winds could remain over Faraulep through Saturday night.
