...TYPHOON SURIGAE MOVING WEST-NORTHWEST AWAY FROM PALAU...

.NEW INFORMATION...
None.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for Kayangel and Koror in the Republic of Palau.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Kayangel in the Republic of
Palau. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Koror in the
Republic of Palau.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 100 AM CHST...1500 UTC...the center of Typhoon Surigae was
located near Latitude 9.6 degrees North and Longitude 132.5 degrees
East, about 185 miles northwest of Kayangel, and about 205 miles
northwest of Koror. Surigae is moving west-northwest at 9 mph with
maximum sustained winds of 105 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Typhoon Surigae will continue to move west-northwest while
intensifying through the day. Surigae is expected to turn towards
the northwest by Sunday with a slight increase in forward speed
later today.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by 900 AM this morning
or sooner if needed.

...KAYANGEL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter and follow instructions from your emergency
officials. Tropical storm conditions will continue through early this morning.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Winds between 25 and 35 mph with higher gust early this morning will
steadily weaken falling between 20 and 25 mph later this morning.
Hazardous marine conditions will continue for the next few days as
winds will slowly decrease.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf of 13 to 18 feet along south, west, and north facing
reefs will continue to slowly subside through the morning. Coastal
inundation of 1 to 2 feet is expected early this morning.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 3 to 6 inches is possible through the day.
Flash flooding remains possible.

...KOROR...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in a sturdy shelter as tropical storm force winds will
continue through early this morning. Follow instructions from your
emergency officials.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph early this morning will
decrease further during the day. All vessels, especially small craft,
should remain in port.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Hazardous surf of 10 to 14 feet along south and west facing reefs
will continue with a slow decrease into early next week. Coastal
inundation of 1 to 2 feet is expected early this morning.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Additional rainfall of 3 to 6 inches is possible through the day.
Flash flooding and mudslides remain possible.
