...STRENGTHENING TROPICAL STORM WASI PASSING SOUTH OF SAVAII AND
MOVING SOUTHEAST...

...STORM INFORMATION...
* Time: 6 PM SST
* Location: About 150 miles west-northwest of Pago Pago
* 13.8S 172.9W
* Storm Intensity 50 mph
* Movement Southeast or 125 degrees near 10 mph

At 6 PM SST, the center of Tropical Cyclone Wasi was estimated to be
near 13.8S 172.9W, or just off the southern coast of Savaii, or
about 150 miles west-northwest of Pago Pago. Maximum sustained winds
are estimated to be near 50 mph, with higher gusts. Additional
strengthening is expected overnight into Saturday. Wasi is currently
moving toward the southeast at about 10 mph. This general motion is
expected to continue overnight, with a general turn toward the south
expected on Saturday. On the forecast track, Tropical Cyclone Wasi
will pass just south of Tutuila and Aunuu early Saturday, and then
move away from the islands Saturday afternoon.

This local statement provides information and recommended actions
for people in the main islands of American Samoa.

...WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Tutuila, Aunuu and
Manua.

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are
expected within 36 hours, in this case within the next 12 hours.

A High Surf Warning remains in effect for all islands of American
Samoa.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all islands of American
Samoa.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Heavy rainfall and runoff may cause small streams to overflow,
resulting in flooding of low lying areas and roadways. Please
take extra caution when driving through flooded roads.

Mud and landslides are also possible along steep slopes and
mountainous areas as grounds become saturated.

The public is advised to take avoid unnecessary travel overnight.

The American Samoa Emergency Management official is advising
residents to remain on alert and secure loose items as necessary.
Preparations to protect life and property should be completed soon
as damaging winds are expected to begin after midnight. Be ready
to comply with any orders that are issued by local emergency
management officials. Continue to monitor radio for further
warnings and advisories.

North to northeast winds of up to 25 mph will prevail through the
evening. Winds are expected to will increase later tonight as
Wasi moves closer to the territory. Damaging northwest to north
winds of 40 to 60 mph, with higher gusts, are expected to begin
after midnight. The potential for strong damaging winds will
continue Saturday morning before gradually diminishing in the
afternoon as Wasi moves away from the islands.

Expect coastal inundation due to a combination of storm surge and
large breaking waves, mainly along west through north facing shores.
A High Surf Warning remains in effect for Tutuila, Aunuu, Manua and
