...TROPICAL DEPRESSION 30W NEWLY FORMED SOUTHWEST OF SOROL...

.NEW INFORMATION...
This is the first local statement issued for Tropical Depression 30W.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This Local Statement provides information and recommended actions for
people on Kayangel in the Republic of Palau and Ngulu in Yap state.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Kayangel in the Republic
of Palau and Ngulu in Yap state.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm Conditions,
including damaging winds of 39 to 73 mph, are possible within the
next 24 hours.

.STORM INFORMATION...
At 700 AM ChST, the center of Tropical Depression 30W was located
near 6.4 degrees north latitude and 139.2 degrees east longitude. 30W
is moving west at 14 mph. Maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
Winds will likely increase as Tropical Depression 30W both approaches
and slowly intensifies. Tropical Depression 30W is currently under
considerable shear, so the amount of intensification is uncertain,
and will likely tend toward less. For that reason, watches have been
issued rather than warnings.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather
Service at 3 PM ChST, or sooner if conditions warrant.

...NGULU...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Bring any small, loose objects indoors. Take action to protect crops
or other property next to the beach where salt spray could become a
problem.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph this morning will turn east and build
to between 25 and 35 mph as the day passes. Winds could possibly peak
at 35 to 45 mph if 30W is able to strengthen more than the shear
would suggest. Winds will then diminish and turn southeast tonight.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will become hazardous at 9 to 12 feet on north and east facing
reefs this afternoon. Hazardous surf could spread to south and west
facing reefs as 30W passes.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Ngulu could receive 2 to 4 inches of rain through Monday night.

...KAYANGEL...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Bring any small, loose object indoors. Take action to protece crops
or other property next to the beach where salt spray could become a
problem.

...WIND INFORMATION...
Northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph this morning will build to between 15
and 25 mph as the day passes. Winds will likely reach 25 to 35 mph
late tonight or early Monday morning, while turning west. Winds could
possibly peak at 35 to 45 mph if 30W is able to strengthen more than
the shear would suggest, or if it moves farther south.

...STORM SURGE AND SURF INFORMATION...
Surf will become hazardous at 9 to 12 feet on north and east facing
reefs this afternoon. Surf will gradually diminish as 30W moves
away starting Monday night.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Kayangel could receive 4 to 6 inches of rain through Monday night.
