**Major Hurricane Michael will make landfall on the Florida Panhandle
 Today. Expected to cause significant impacts to much of central and
 east Georgia through Thursday.**

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - The Tropical Storm Warning has been upgraded to a Hurricane
      Warning for Bleckley, Crisp, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Laurens,
      Macon, Marion, Pulaski, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Webster, and
      Wilcox

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Bleckley, Crisp, Dodge,
      Dooly, Houston, Laurens, Macon, Marion, Pulaski, Schley,
      Stewart, Sumter, Webster, and Wilcox
    - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Baldwin, Bibb,
      Chattahoochee, Crawford, Emanuel, Glascock, Greene, Hancock,
      Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Lamar, Monroe, Montgomery,
      Morgan, Muscogee, Oglethorpe, Peach, Putnam, Talbot,
      Taliaferro, Taylor, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Twiggs, Upson,

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 310 miles south-southwest of Atlanta GA or about 270
      miles south-southwest of Macon GA
    - 29.4N 86.0W
    - Storm Intensity 145 mph
    - Movement North-northeast or 15 degrees at 14 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Hurricane Michael is a strong Category 4 Major Hurricane and is
expected to make landfall along the Florida panhandle in the next few
hours. The latest forecast shows Hurricane Michael will then
accelerate northeast over southwest and into middle Georgia tonight.
Please note that torrential rainfall, strong winds and possible
tornadoes will will affect much of north and central Georgia this
afternoon and this evening, well ahead of the arrival of the center of
the storm.

During the height of the storm, sustained winds of 30 to 55 mph will
be possible with gusts up to 75 mph across portions of central Georgia,
with the strongest winds roughly along and south of a line from
Columbus to Macon to west of Augusta.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with the
potential for locally higher amounts. An elevated risk of localized
flash flooding exists due to the heavy rain potential.


POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
Protect against life-threatening wind having possible extensive impacts
across central and eastern Georgia. Potential impacts in this area
include:
    - Considerable roof damage to sturdy buildings, with some having
      window, door, and garage door failures leading to structural
      damage. Mobile homes severely damaged, with some destroyed.
      Damage accentuated by airborne projectiles. Locations may be
      uninhabitable for weeks.
    - Many large trees snapped or uprooted along with fences and
      roadway signs blown over.
    - Some roads impassable from large debris, and more within urban
      or heavily wooded places. Several bridges, causeways, and
      access routes impassable.
    - Large areas with power and communications outages.

Also, protect against dangerous wind having possible limited to
significant impacts across central and eastern Georgia.

* TORNADOES:
Protect against a dangerous tornado event having possible significant
impacts across north and central Georgia. Potential impacts include:
    - The occurrence of scattered tornadoes can hinder the execution
      of emergency plans during tropical events.
    - Several places may experience tornado damage with a few spots
      of considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures.
    - Locations could realize roofs torn off frame houses, mobile
      homes demolished, boxcars overturned, large trees snapped or
      uprooted, vehicles tumbled, and small boats tossed about.
      Dangerous projectiles can add to the toll.

Protect against a tornado event having possible limited impacts
across north and central Georgia.

* FLOODING RAIN:
Protect against dangerous rainfall flooding having possible significant
impacts across central and eastern Georgia. Potential impacts include:
    - Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and
      rescues.
    - Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter
      currents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially
      in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals,
      arroyos, and ditches overflow.
    - Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations.
      Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid
      inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage
      areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as
      storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions
      become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures.

Protect against locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible
limited impacts across central and eastern Georgia.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
----------------------------------

Now is the time to complete all preparations to protect life and
property in accordance with your emergency plan. Ensure you are in a
safe location before the onset of strong winds or possible flooding.

It is important to remain calm, informed, and focused during an
emergency. Be patient and helpful with those you encounter.

If you are a visitor, be sure to know the name of the city or town in
which you are staying and the name of the county or parish in which
it resides. Listen for these locations in local news updates. Pay
attention for instructions from local authorities.

If a Tornado Warning is issued for your area, be ready to shelter
quickly, preferably away from windows and in an interior room not
prone to flooding. If driving, scan the roadside for quick shelter
options.

Closely monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather radio or local news outlets
for official storm information. Be ready to adapt to possible changes
to the forecast. Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather
warnings.
