SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

Tropical Storm Jose is not expected to move too much over the next
few days. It will remain generally to the southeast of Nantucket into
the weekend, but is expected to gradually weaken with time. The
strongest winds associated with Jose are expected today and tonight,
but some gusty winds will linger into the weekend. Severe beach
erosion is also expected over the next several tide cycles across
southeastern New England, especially Cape Cod and Nantucket.

The strongest winds will occur through tonight with gusts to 60 mph
on Nantucket and 45 to 55 on Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard. Minor
coastal flooding is possible through the Friday high tide cycle,
with pockets of moderate flooding possible on Nantucket. The marine
community will continue to feel the highest impacts with life-
threatening conditions continuing on the coastal waters southeast of
New England through tomorrow, with seas up to 20 feet and tropical
storm force wind gusts.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* SURGE:
Protect against locally hazardous surge having possible limited
impacts, especially on Nantucket through the Friday high tide.

Potential impacts in these areas include:
    - Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly along
      immediate shorelines and in low-lying spots.
    - Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots become overspread
      with surge water. Driving conditions may be dangerous in places
      where surge water covers the road.
    - Severe beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainly in
      usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents.

Elsewhere across Southern New England, little to no impact is
anticipated.

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
With Jose expected to remain nearly stationary over the next few days
high surf will continue to impact area beaches and coastlines. Severe
beach erosion is expected with protective dunes at risk for being
overtopped or washed away. Dangerous rip currents can be expected along
with high surf which could catch unsuspecting wave watchers off guard.
The threat for beach erosion, high surf and dangerous rip currents is
expected to linger into the weekend, with a chance for it to last until
early next week.

* WIND:
The strongest winds from Jose will continue this afternoon and
overnight. While winds are expected to weaken somewhat, some stronger
gusts could continue into Saturday. The strongest winds are expected
over Cape Cod and the Islands, especially Nantucket.

Potential impacts in these areas include:
    - Some tree limbs or even whole trees snapped or uprooted.
    - Some roads impassable from large debris especially in heavily
      wooded places.
    - Scattered power and communications outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Evacuations are unlikely with this event. However, you should be
prepared to follow any local instructions from emergency management
