Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1030 UTC.

...ITCZ/MONSOON TROUGH...

The monsoon trough extends from the African coast near 12N16W to
07N19W. The Intertropical Convergence Zone extends from 07N19W to
07N35W to the South American coast near 06N55W. Scattered
moderate convection is from 02N to 12N between 24W and 39W.
Isolated moderate convection is from 06N to 14N E of 24W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

A surface ridge axis extends SE across the western and central
Gulf from high pressure centered over the central United States.
This is supporting generally fair weather and gentle to moderate
NE to E winds over this portion of the basin. A surface trough is
over the eastern Gulf with an axis extending from 29N85W to
23N85W. Scattered showers are S of 28N and E of 87W. Moderate
northerly winds are W of the trough over the eastern Gulf.
Moderate NE to SE winds are E of the trough. Over the next 24
hours the trough will drift SW. Little change is expected
elsewhere.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

A stationary front extends from central Cuba near 21N78W to
18N83W. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are within 120 nm of
either side of the front. Moderate NE winds are NW of the front. A
surface trough is over the SW Caribbean with an axis extending
from 17N81W to 10N79W. Isolated thunderstorms are S of 14N W of
74W. Moderate northerly winds are W of the trough, except fresh
to strong within 60 nm of the coast of Nicaragua. Generally fair
weather and moderate easterly trades cover the remainder of the
central and eastern Caribbean. Over the next 24 hours the front
will transition into a surface trough with ongoing showers and
thunderstorms. Little change is expected elsewhere.

...HISPANIOLA...

Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue over the island, as
moist southwest flow aloft prevails over the region. Little change
is expected over the next 48 hours.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cold front over the W Atlantic enters the area of discussion
near 31N63W and extends to 25N72W, where it transitions to a
stationary front that extends to central Cuba near 21N78W. A pre-
frontal trough extends from 26N70W to 21N73W. Scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms are within 180 nm W of the front S of
28N, and within 300 nm E of the front. Another cold front enters
the area of discussion over the central Atlantic near 31N47W and
extends to 27N55W. Scattered showers are within 90 nm SE of the
front. A surface trough extends from 21N53W to 14N55W. No
significant convection is noted with this trough. A 1019 mb area
of high pressure centered near 27N47W dominates the remainder of
the central Atlantic. A broad area of low pressure is centered
near 32N26W with an associated surface trough extending from
31N16W to 20N22W. Scattered moderate convection is N of 27N
between 13W and 24W. Large swell continues between the trough and
the low. Over the next 24 hours the remainder of the west Atlantic
cold front will become stationary. The central Atlantic front
will move E. Large swell will subside over the E Atlantic.
