Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1015 UTC.

...ITCZ/MONSOON TROUGH...

The monsoon trough extends from the African coast near 11N15W to
03N21W. The Intertropical Convergence Zone extends from 03N21W to
03N40W. Scattered moderate convection is from 02N to 08N between
09W and 16W, and from 03N to 11N between 24W and 32W.

...DISCUSSION...

GULF OF MEXICO...

High pressure dominates the Gulf of Mexico this morning with a
1017 mb high centered over SE Alabama, and a stationary 1015 mb
high centered over the SW Gulf near 23N94W. These high pressure
centers are supporting generally fair weather over the basin. The
only exception are showers over the eastern Gulf within 90 nm of a
surface trough that extends from 29N86W to 22N85W. Light to gentle
winds cover the majority of the Gulf, except for moderate winds
over the far NW and SE corners of the Gulf basin. Little change
is expected through tonight.

CARIBBEAN SEA...

The tail end of a cold front is over the NW Caribbean from central
Cuba near 22N80W to 19N83W. Deep moisture in SW flow covers the
Caribbean between the cold front and 74W supporting scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms. A surface trough extends over
the SW Caribbean from 16N80W to 10N78W. This trough is
interacting with a moist air mass to support scattered moderate
convection S of 13N and W of 75W, and scattered thunderstorms
elsewhere within 90 nm of the surface trough. Gentle to moderate
NW winds are west of 82W, except fresh near the coast of Honduras
and Nicaragua. Mainly moderate easterly trades cover the Caribbean
E of 82W. Over the next 24 hours the front will stall over the NW
Caribbean and then dissipate through Monday. Otherwise, little
change is expected.

...HISPANIOLA...

Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue over the area this
morning as moist SW flow aloft prevails over the region. Little
change is expected through tonight.

ATLANTIC OCEAN...

A cold front extends into the area of discussion over the SW N
Atlantic near 31N75W to the Bahamas near 24N77W to Cuba near
22N80W. The combination of this cold front and an upper trough to
the west supports scattered moderate convection N of 23N within
450 nm E of a line from 31N71W to 23N77W. Farther east, a cold
front extends from 31N52W to 26N58W. No significant convection is
noted with this front. A 1000 mb low is centered near 31N26W.
This low supports a cold front that enters the area of discussion
near 31N19W to 22N25W to 18N38W. Scattered moderate convection is
N of 25N between 15W and 23W. Fresh to strong NW winds are N of
the front as well as large swell. Over the next 24 hours the
southern portion of the W Atlantic cold front will become
stationary. The other fronts will continue to move E.
