SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

POST TROPICAL STORM HERMINE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT THE RHODE
ISLAND SOUTH COAST AND MASSACHUSETTS SOUTHEAST COAST WITH ROUGH
SURF... DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS...BEACH EROSION AND A PERIOD OF
GUSTY WINDS TODAY. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR
THE SOUTH COASTS OF RHODE ISLAND AND MASSACHUSETTS INCLUDING BLOCK
ISLAND...MARTHAS VINEYARD...NANTUCKET AND CAPE COD.

AS OF 10 AM...NANTUCKET SHOALS BUOY IS REPORTING SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS
AT 36 KNOTS WITH A 51 KNOT GUST. ACROSS THE ISLANDS...GUSTS ARE
INCREASING ABOVE 40 MPH.

ANTICIPATE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE THROUGH
THE MORNING AND LAST INTO THE EVENING HOURS. LOCATIONS ACROSS THE
SOUTH COAST...CAPE AND ISLANDS COULD SEE GUSTS UP TO 55 MPH. THE BEST
TIME FRAME FOR THE STRONGEST WIND GUSTS TO OCCUR IS BETWEEN NOON AND
5 PM TODAY.

ALONG THE COAST...DANGEROUSLY ROUGH SURF AND LIFE THREATENING RIP
CURRENTS WILL OCCUR THROUGH MID WEEK AT ALL OCEAN EXPOSED RHODE ISLAND
AND MASSACHUSETTS BEACHES...ALTHOUGH CONDITIONS WILL BE MOST SEVERE
ALONG THE RHODE ISLAND SOUTH COAST...BLOCK ISLAND...EAST AND SOUTH
FACING SHORELINES OF NANTUCKET AND THE OUTER CAPE OCEAN SIDE INCLUDING
NAUSET AND COAST GUARD BEACHES. SEVERAL BEACHES ARE CLOSED AT THIS
TIME. MINOR SPLASHOVER COULD OCCUR AT HIGH TIDE TODAY ACROSS THE SOUTH
COAST OF RHODE ISLAND.

A FEW HEAVY DOWNPOURS ARE POSSIBLE LATE TODAY INTO TUESDAY ACROSS
SOUTHEAST NEW ENGLAND...BUT NO FLOODING IS EXPECTED.


POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND: PREPARE FOR WINDS STRONG ENOUGH TO DOWN SOME TREES...LARGE
BRANCHES AND POWER LINES. EXPECT SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES THROUGH THE
DAY.

* SURGE: A 1 TO 2 FOOT STORM SURGE IS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY AND THIS
EVENING. NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED OTHER THAN SOME MINOR
BEACH EROSION.
