SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

HURRICANE MATTHEW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS THIS
AFTERNOON, AND IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY NEAR THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA
TONIGHT. THE EYE OF MATTHEW WILL MOVE NEAR OR OVER FREEPORT IN THE
BAHAMAS IN THE NEXT HOUR OR SO...AND MOVE CLOSE TO OR OVER THE EAST
COAST OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE UPPER FLORIDA
KEYS IN OCCASIONAL SQUALLS...THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT. TROPICAL
STORM FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MIDDLE FLORIDA KEYS IN
OCCASIONAL SQUALLS...THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT. SEVERAL RAIN BANDS
CONTINUE TO RACE THROUGH THE FLORIDA KEYS AT 25 TO 35 MPH. A NUMBER
OF OBSERVATIONS OF 40 TO 45 MPH WIND GUSTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED OVER
THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS.

SEA WATER LEVELS CONTINUE TO SLOWLY TREND HIGHER...AND MINOR
INUNDATION IS EXPECTED ON LOW-LYING AREAS ALONG THE NORTHERN COASTS
OF THE ISLAND CHAIN BEGINNING EARLY THIS EVENING. TIDE GAUGES ALONG
THE FLORIDA KEYS INDICATE SEA LEVELS ARE AROUND A HALF FOOT ABOVE
NORMAL IN THE LOWER KEYS TO AROUND ONE FOOT IN THE MIDDLE KEYS. A 3
PM OBSERVATION FROM BLACK WATER SOUND...IN THE UPPER KEYS...INDICATED
1.97 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
OCCASIONAL HAZARDOUS WINDS HAVING POTENTIAL IMPACTS MAINLY IN
THE MIDDLE AND UPPER KEYS. THESE IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
    - HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED
      ROADWAYS.
    - ISOLATED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.

* SURGE: STORM SURGE OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLORIDA
  KEYS...ALONG THE NORTHERN SHORES. LIMITED IMPACTS INCLUDE:
    - LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING MAINLY ALONG
      IMMEDIATE SHORELINES AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS...MAINLY ON THE
      NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE ISLANDS.
    - SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME
      OVERSPREAD WITH SURGE WATER. DRIVING CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS IN
      PLACES WHERE SURGE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

* FLOODING RAIN:
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1-3 INCHES...WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS UP TO 5
INCHES. MINOR FLOODING OF SECONDARY ROADWAYS ARE POSSIBLE.

OUTSIDE PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE COMPLETE.

CLOSELY MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR OTHER LOCAL NEWS OUTLETS FOR

ALL PARKS IN THE VILLAGE OF ISLAMORADA AND ALL STATE PARKS IN THE
FLORIDA KEYS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY.

THE SNAKE CREEK DRAWBRIDGE WILL BE LOCKED THROUGH MIDNIGHT TONIGHT.
