SITUATION OVERVIEW

HURRICANE MATTHEW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS TODAY,
AND IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY NEAR THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA BY
TONIGHT. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE EYE OF MATTHEW SHOULD PASS NEAR
ANDROS ISLAND AND NEW PROVIDENCE ISLAND IN THE NORTHWESTERN
BAHAMAS EARLY THIS MORNING...THEN PASS NEAR GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND
LATE TODAY...AND MOVE VERY CLOSE TO THE EAST COAST OF THE FLORIDA
PENINSULA TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE UPPER FLORIDA KEYS AND ADJACENT WATERS...
ESPECIALLY IN SQUALLS...TODAY AND TONIGHT. TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MIDDLE FLORIDA KEYS AND ADJACENT
WATERS...MAINLY IN SQUALLS...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS

* WIND:
POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
    - UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
    - HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED
      ROADWAYS.
    - SCATTERED POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS OUTAGES.

* SURGE:
PROTECT AGAINST LOCALLY HAZARDOUS SURGE HAVING POSSIBLE LIMITED
IMPACTS ACROSS THE FLORIDA KEYS, ALONG THE SHORE. POTENTIAL
IMPACTS IN THIS AREA INCLUDE:
    - LOCALIZED INUNDATION WITH STORM SURGE FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG
      THE IMMEDIATE SHORELINES AND IN LOW-LYING SPOTS...MAINLY ON
      THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE ISLANDS.
    - SECTIONS OF NEAR-SHORE ROADS AND PARKING LOTS BECOME OVERSPREAD
      WITH SURGE WATER. DRIVING CONDITIONS DANGEROUS IN PLACES WHERE
      SURGE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

* FLOODING RAIN:
MINOR FLOODING OF SECONDARY ROADWAYS IS POSSIBLE.
