...TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...

...NEW INFORMATION...
TROPICAL STORM FAY LOCATED INLAND ABOUT 25 MILES WEST OF DAYTONA
BEACH.

...LOCAL MARINE IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM FAY IS INLAND AND EVER SO SLOWLY DRIFTING AWAY FROM
THE MARINE WATERS. HOWEVER...FAY STILL HAS A FAR REACH TO THE EAST
WITH ITS ASSOCIATED RAINBANDS. THEREFORE...SQUALLY WEATHER WILL
PERSIST THROUGH FRIDAY UNTIL THE OUTER REACHES OF FAY TOTALLY
EXIT THE AREA.

ALL WINDS FROM FLAGLER BEACH TO JUPITER INLET WERE OFFSHORE. EVEN
THOUGH FAY IS NOW INLAND...TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS PERSIST OVER
THE COASTAL WATERS FROM SEBASTIAN INLET NORTH MAINLY IN GUSTS.
GUSTS TO 50 KNOTS ARE STILL POSSIBLE IN PASSING SQUALLS. AT BUOY

TO 7 FEET OFFSHORE. IMPORTANTLY...SQUALLS PRODUCING TORRENTIAL

INLAND VOLUSIA-NORTHERN LAKE-ORANGE-SEMINOLE-OSCEOLA-
SOUTHERN LAKE-
1217 AM EDT FRI AUG 22 2008

...A TEMPORARY RELAXING OF THE HEAVY RAIN...

...NEW INFORMATION...
RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO FALL OVERNIGHT...BUT SHOULD NOT BE AS HEAVY
OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS. HOWEVER..DUE TO THE EARLIER HEAVY
RAIN...EVACUATIONS WERE TAKING PACE IN PARTS OF LAKE COUNTY SOUTH
OF HIGHWAY 46 NEAR THE WEKIVA RIVER RESORT. WIDESPREAD AREAL
FLOODING WAS OCCURRING OVER NORTH AND EAST LAKE COUNTY ALONG THE
WEKIVA RIVER...ESPECIALLY NEAR ASTOR SOUTH TOWARD HIGHWAY 46.

...AREAS AFFECTED...
THIS STATEMENT RECOMMENDS ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY PERSONS IN THE
FOLLOWING INLAND COUNTIES...LAKE...ORANGE...SEMINOLE...OSCEOLA...AND
INTERIOR VOLUSIA.

...INLAND FLOODING...
A FLOOD WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SEMINOLE COUNTY...NORTH AND
CENTRAL LAKE COUNTY...NORTH ORANGE COUNTY... AND INLAND VOLUSIA
COUNTY.

LAKE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTED EVACUATIONS ONGOING
NEAR THE WEKIVA RIVER RESORT SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 46. ALSO...FLOODING
WAS REPORTED TO BE WIDESPREAD NEAR ASTOR AND WEKIVA. RAINBANDS
FROM FAY CONTINUE TO ROTATE ABOUT THE CIRCULATION CENTER.
FORTUNATELY...RAINFALL RATES HAVE DECREASED SOMEWHAT WITH THIS
RELAXATION EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. EVEN
SO...FLOODING OF ROADS...STREETS AND INTERSECTIONS ARE LIKELY TO
BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD IN THESE LOCATIONS. SOME HOMES AND
BUSINESSES MAY BE SUBJECT TO LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE
WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW
YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. ONLY TWO FEET OF WATER CAN MAKE MOST
VEHICLES BUOYANT. TURN AROUND...DO NOT DROWN!

AS FAY TRACKS FARTHER INLAND...THE THREAT FOR ADDITIONAL HEAVY
RAIN WILL REMAIN HIGH AS RAINBANDS DEVELOP NEAR AND SOUTH OF THE
STORM CENTER. RAINBANDS MAY MOVE ACROSS THE SAME LOCATIONS FOR
EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE
OVERNIGHT...WITH THE CHANCE FOR HEAVY RAIN TO RETURN FOR THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS.

ON THE SAINT JOHNS RIVER...RUN OFF FROM THE ASSOCIATED HEAVY RAIN
FROM TROPICAL STORM FAY HAS PROMPTED CONCERN FOR MINOR FLOODING AT
ASTOR. THIS MORNINGS STAGE HEIGHT WAS 2.3 FEET...BUT THE FORECAST
IS EXPECTED TO REACH FLOOD STAGE OF 2.8 FEET ON FRIDAY...AND UP TO
3.0 FEET INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. IF ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT RAIN
AMOUNTS ARE EXPERIENCED OVERNIGHT...THE FORECAST HEIGHT MAY BE
SOMEWHAT HIGHER. BE SURE TO KEEP INFORMED OF THE LATEST RIVER
FORECAST FOR THE SAINT JOHNS AT ASTOR.

ON THE SAINT JOHNS AT DELAND AND LAKE HARNEY...THESE POINTS ARE
FORECAST TO REACH ACTION STAGE. NEARBY RESIDENTS SHOULD MONITOR
THE LATEST RIVER LEVELS AND FORECASTS BETWEEN LAKE HARNEY AND
DELAND...TO INCLUDE SANFORD...THROUGH THIS WEEKEND.

...WINDS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS WILL CONTINUE OVERNIGHT. THE
STRONGEST WINDS WILL OCCUR WITHIN INNER BANDS LOCATED ABOUT THE
CIRCULATION CENTER OF FAY AND IN PASSING SQUALLS. ACROSS INTERIOR
LOCATIONS...INCLUDING METRO ORLANDO...LEESBURG...AND
SANFORD...WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH WILL OCCUR...AND A
LITTLE HIGHER IN PASSING SQUALLS TO 55 MPH.

...NEXT UPDATE...
THE NEXT LOCAL STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE IN MELBOURNE AROUND 6 AM...OR SOONER IF CONDITIONS
WARRANT.
