WINDS 39 TO 73 MPH ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

AT 4 PM...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE DENNIS WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE
30.8 NORTH...LONGITUDE 87.2 WEST OR ABOUT 20 MILES NORTH OF
PENSACOLA. DENNIS IS MOVING NORTH AT 21 MPH. SOME DECREASE IN FORWARD
SPEED IS POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NOW NEAR 105 MPH. DENNIS IS A CATEGORY
TWO HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR SIMPSON SCALE. DENNIS IS EXPECTED TO
WEAKEN TO A TROPICAL STORM OVERNIGHT.

AT 4 PM AUTOMATED WEATHER PLATFORM AT DAUPHIN ISLAND REPORTED
NORTHWEST WINDS 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 44 MPH. GULFPORT AIRPORT WAS
REPORTING NORTHWEST WINDS 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH. A HAM RADIO
OPERATOR REPORTED A RECENT 50 MPH WIND GUST AT THE GULFPORT AIRPORT.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...35 TO 45 WITH HIGHER GUSTS...ARE LIKELY
FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.

NO STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED ON THE MISSISSIPPI COAST DUE TO OFFSHORE
NORTHWEST FLOW. SINCE THE NORTHWEST FLOW OVER SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA IS
LESS THAN 25 MPH AND IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN DURING THE EVENING...THE
THREAT OF STORM SURGE FLOODING IN ST TAMMANY PARISH AND FOR GRAND
ISLE HAS DIMINISHED.

...RAINFALL...
THE FAST MOVEMENT OF HURRICANE DENNIS WILL HELP LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF
HEAVY RAIN THAT OCCURS ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI COAST. 1 TO 2 INCHES
OF ADDITIONAL RAIN IS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING.
