NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
530 AM EDT THU AUG 25 2005

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM KATRINA...LOCATED IN THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS ABOUT 90 MILES
EAST OF FT. LAUDERDALE FLORIDA.

A VIGOROUS TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED MIDWAY BETWEEN AFRICA AND THE
LESSER ANTILLES IS MOVING WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH.  THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY POORLY
ORGANIZED...AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE AT BEST MARGINALLY FAVORABLE
FOR DEVELOPMENT.  THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR THE SYSTEM TO BECOME
A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO...AS IT MOVES
TOWARD WEST-NORTHWEST OVER THE OPEN ATLANTIC.

THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY EXTENDING FROM HISPANIOLA NORTHWARD INTO THE
ATLANTIC FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES IS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL
WAVE AND AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH.  UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE CURRENTLY
NOT FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH
FRIDAY.
