THIS STATEMENT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE
FOLLOWING PARISHES IN LOUISIANA...ASCENSION...ASSUMPTION...
IBERVILLE...JEFFERSON...LAFOURCHE...LIVINGSTON...ORLEANS...
PLAQUEMINES...ST BERNARD...ST CHARLES...ST JAMES...ST JOHN THE
BAPTIST...ST TAMMANY...TANGIPAHOA...TERREBONNE.

AND THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN MISSISSIPPI...HANCOCK...HARRISON...

A HURRICANE WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND
COASTAL MISSISSIPPI FROM MORGAN CITY EAST TO ST MARKS FLORIDA. THIS
INCLUDES THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS METROPOLITAN AREA AND PARISHES
BOARDING LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN AND LAKE MAUREPAS.

...STORM INFORMATION SUMMARY...
AT 10 PM...HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED AT 22.0 NORTH AND 85.4 WEST
OR ABOUT 625 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF NEW ORLEANS OR 40 MILES WEST
NORTHWEST OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. IVAN IS MOVING NORTHWEST AT 9
MILES AN HOUR. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE 160 MILES AN HOUR WITH
HIGHER GUSTS.

...PRECAUTIONARY AND PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
SEVERAL PARISHES IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA HAVE ISSUED VOLUNTARY
EVACUATION ORDERS INCLUDING ORLEANS AND JEFFERSON. ST BERNARD HAS
ISSUED A VOLUNTARY EVACUATION ORDER FOR AREAS OUTSIDE THE
FEDERAL HURRICANE PROTECTION LEVEE.

A HURRICANE WATCH MEANS HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN 36
HOURS. RESIDENTS OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA SHOULD MAKE PREPARATIONS
FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF HURRICANE CONDITIONS. RESIDENTS SHOULD FOLLOW
EVACUATION RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN BY LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT
OFFICIALS.

IVAN IS A VERY LARGE...DANGEROUS HURRICANE. ALTHOUGH IVAN IS EXPECTED
TO WEAKEN BEFORE LANDFALL...PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE ALL NECESSARY MEASURES
TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM A POTENTIAL STRIKE OF A MAJOR
HURRICANE.

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
TIDES ARE CURRENTLY NEAR 1 FOOT ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA. DUE TO THE LARGE WIND FIELD ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE
IVAN...TIDES WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE ACROSS THE AREA LATE TUESDAY.
EXTREME STORM SURGE VALUES OF 10 TO 15 FEET ABOVE NORMAL ARE
POSSIBLE IF IVANS TRACK SHIFTS WEST TOWARDS THE MISSISSIPPI COAST
OR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA.

THE ORLEANS AND LAKE BORGNE LEVEE DISTRICTS PLAN TO CLOSE FLOOD GATES
AT BAYOU BIENVENUE AND BAYOU DUPREE ON TUESDAY.

...WIND IMPACTS....
EAST TO NORTHEAST WIND OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL CONTINUE OVER COASTAL
AREAS THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. TROPICAL STORM WINDS...WINDS OF 40 MPH
OR HIGHER...WILL SPREAD INTO THE COASTAL AREA MID DAY WEDNESDAY...
THEN SPREAD INLAND. DEPENDING ON THE EXACT TRACK OF THE HURRICANE
IVAN...HURRICANE FORCE WINDS MAY SPREAD INTO THE COASTAL AREAS OF
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND COASTAL MISSISSIPPI WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
