MONROE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS HAVE LIFTED THE
MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER FOR RESIDENTS OF THE KEYS. HOWEVER...ANY
PERSON RE-ENTERING THE KEYS SHOULD USE CAUTION AS A FEW RAINBANDS
WILL BRING GUSTY WINDS AND PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN TODAY THROUGH
TUESDAY. MONROE COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY. MONROE COUNTY
OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED THROUGH TUESDAY. THE MONROE COUNTY
INFORMATION HOT-LINE HAS THE LATEST INFORMATION. THEY MAY BE REACHED

WEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT REMAINS CLOSED TO COMMERCIAL TRAFFIC AT

AT 500 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IVAN WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 20.2 NORTH...LONGITUDE 83.9 WEST...OR ABOUT 120 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. THIS IS ABOUT 330 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHWEST OF KEY WEST. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS WERE NEAR 160
MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THIS MAKES IVAN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME
FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE LIKELY DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IVAN
WAS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST NEAR 9 MPH...AND A TURN TOWARD
THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. DEPENDING ON THE
EXACT MOTION...THE CENTER COULD MISS THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA AND
COULD EVEN MOVE NEAR THE NORTHEASTERN YUCATAN PENINSULA DURING THE
NEXT 24 HOURS. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE WAS ESTIMATED AT 920 MB...OR
27.17 INCHES OF MERCURY.

...WATCHES AND WARNINGS...
A TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM THE
SEVEN MILE BRIDGE WESTWARD TO THE DRY TORTUGAS. THIS WATCH MAY BE
LOWERED LATER TODAY THOUGH.

...WIND IMPACTS...
CURRENTLY...WINDS OVER THE LOWER KEYS AND NEARSHORE WATERS ARE FROM
THE EAST NEAR 20 MILES PER HOUR...GUSTING TO 25 MILES PER HOUR ALONG
THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE LOWER KEYS. BY TONIGHT WINDS WILL BE
CLOSE TO 25 TO 30 MILES PER HOUR...ESPECIALLY IN THE LOWER KEYS AND
DRY TORTUGAS.

...STORM SURGE FLOOD AND STORM TIDE IMPACTS...
NO SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE IS EXPECTED IN THE KEYS WITH THE PASSAGE
OF HURRICANE IVAN. HOWEVER...HIGH TIDES IN THE LOWER KEYS COULD RUN
AROUND ONE FOOT ABOVE NORMAL TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE NEXT HIGH TIDE
IN KEY WEST HARBOR WILL OCCUR AT 949 AM THIS MORNING.

...PROBABILITY OF HURRICANE/TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS...
THE PROBABILITY THAT HURRICANE IVAN WILL PASS WITHIN 75 MILES OF
KEY WEST IS FIVE PERCENT.

...MARINE IMPACTS...
SEAS ARE EXPECTED TO BUILD TO NINE TO TWELVE FEET OUTSIDE THE REEF
AND TWO TO FOUR FEET INSIDE THE REEF BY THIS EVENING. MARINERS
SHOULD MONITOR FORECASTS UNTIL THE HURRICANE IVAN THREAT HAS PASSED.
SMALL CRAFT SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT.
