TIDES WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE EARLY THIS MORNING ALONG THE
GULF OF MEXICO COAST AND ITS TIDAL ESTUARIES. HURRICANE CHARLEY IS
FORECAST TO PASS BY THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA COAST AROUND THE TIME OF
HIGH TIDE...AROUND MIDDAY TODAY. THIS MEANS THAT THE HIGHEST STORM
TIDE WILL BE BEGIN AFFECTING THE COASTLINE FRIDAY MORNING AND WILL
LAST THROUGH AFTERNOON. THE STORM TIDE...THE COMBINATION OF STORM
SURGE AND ASTRONOMICAL TIDE COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 10 TO 12 FEET
ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL IN THE NORTH PORTION OF COLLIER COUNTY FROM
VANDERBILT BEACH TO BONITA BEACH...INCLUDING LELY BAREFOOT
BEACH...BONITA SHORES...NAPLES...AND UP THE COCOHATCHEE RIVER.

MUCH OF SOUTH AND CENTRAL COLLIER COUNTY...INCLUDING NAPLES AND MARCO
ISLAND MAY SEE A STORM TIDE...THE COMBINATION OF STORM SURGE AND
NORMAL HIGH TIDE...UP TO 8 TO 10 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL. THIS
WILL CAUSE MANY COASTAL ROADWAYS TO FLOOD...ESPECIALLY STATE ROADS
951 AND 92 WHICH LINK MARCO ISLAND TO THE MAINLAND.

A STORM SURGE OF 6 FEET ABOVE MEAN SEA LEVEL IS POSSIBLE ALONG THE
NORTH AND WEST SHORES OF LAKE OKEECHOBEE ON FRIDAY AS SOUTH TO
SOUTHEAST WINDS NEAR TROPICAL STORM FORCE AFFECT THE AREA. THIS
WILL LIKELY CAUSE FLOODING NEAR THE MOUTH OF FISHEATING CREEK.

...WIND IMPACTS...
AT 12 AM...THE OUTERMOST RAINBAND...SEEN BY DOPPLER RADAR...EXTENDED
ACROSS MAINLAND MONROE AND MIAMI-DADE COUNTIES FROM EVERGLADES CITY
TO HOMESTEAD. THIS BAND WHICH LIKELY CONTAINS WINDS NEAR TROPICAL
STORM FORCE AND WILL REACH BROWARD AND COLLIER COUNTIES AFTER 1
AM...AND PALM BEACH...HENDRY...AND GLADES COUNTIES AROUND 2 AM.

WINDS WILL REACH NEAR HURRICANE FORCE WITH HIGHER GUSTS THIS
AFTERNOON ALONG THE GULF COAST. THE CENTER OF CHARLEY SHOULD MAKE
ITS CLOSEST APPROACH TO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SHORTLY AFTER NOON TODAY.
THE WINDS WILL CAUSE EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE RESULTING IN WIDESPREAD
POWER OUTAGES WHICH COULD LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

WINDS OVER 40 MPH WILL SPREAD INLAND ACROSS INLAND COLLIER
AND ACROSS HENDRY AND GLADES COUNTIES DURING THE DAY TODAY.

...LOCAL MARINE IMPACTS...
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS WILL SPREAD NORTH TO THE COASTAL WATERS
OFF NAPLES BEFORE DAWN TODAY. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS COULD AFFECT THE
GULF COASTAL WATERS AFTER SUNRISE...LASTING THROUGH MOST OF THE DAY.
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS MAY AFFECT LAKE OKEECHOBEE TODAY.

RIP CURRENTS AND DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS WILL MAKE SWIMMING OR
SURFING IN THE GULF OF MEXICO AND ATLANTIC OCEAN DANGEROUS.
MARINERS IN THE HURRICANE AND TROPICAL STORM WARNING AREA SHOULD
RUSH PREPARATIONS TO SECURE BOATS AND MARINE CRAFT IN PORT
REMEMBERING TO ALLOW FOR THE STORM SURGE.

...LOCAL FLOOD IMPACTS...
HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BEGIN EARLY THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH
THE DAY TODAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL TOTAL 4 TO 8 INCHES OVER
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WITH 3 TO 5 INCHES OVER THE INTERIOR AND SOUTHEAST
COAST OF FLORIDA. THIS HEAVY RAIN MAY CAUSE FLOODING...ESPECIALLY IN
POORLY DRAINED AREAS INCLUDING UNDERPASSES AND DRAINAGE DITCHES.
MANY ROADWAYS WILL BE UNDER WATER AND ACCESS COULD BE CUT OFF TO LOW
LYING AREAS ALONG THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA COAST.

...LOCAL TORNADO IMPACTS..
TORNADOES MAY FORM IN THE OUTER RAINBANDS OF CHARLEY AND AFFECT MOST
OF SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH THE DAY TODAY.

...NEXT UPDATE...
