...Climate Summary for January, 2023...

January, 2023 was both wetter and warmer than normal. Despite the
fact that we concluded the month with a multi-day winter weather
event, this was one of the warmest January's on record.

In Nashville, the average temperature was 46.8 degrees, which was
7.2 degrees above normal, and ties for the 8th warmest January on
record. The average high temperature was 56.4 degrees and the
average low temperature was 37.2 degrees. The highest temperature
was 75 degrees on the 2nd and the lowest temperature was 25
degrees on the 27th. There were 10 days when the temperature
dropped to 32 degrees or below.

Total rainfall for January was 4.91 inches, which is 0.89 inches
above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.45 inches on
the 2nd and 3rd. There were 16 days with measurable rainfall.
There was only a trace of snow. There were 3 days with
thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was 48 mph on the 19th.

In Clarksville, the average temperature was 45.5 degrees, which
was 8.5 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was
55.1 degrees and the average low temperature was 36.0 degrees.
The highest temperature was 75 degrees on the 2nd and the lowest
temperature was 23 degrees on the 21st. There were 13 days when
the temperature dropped to 32 degrees or below.

Total rainfall for January was 5.42 inches, which is 2.14 inches
above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.45 inches on
the 2nd and 3rd. There were 14 days with measurable rainfall.
There were 4 days with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was
49 mph on the 3rd.

In Crossville, the average temperature was 42.2 degrees, which
was 6.9 degrees above normal, and qualifies for the 6th warmest
January on record. The average high temperature was 50.7 degrees
and the average low temperature was 33.7 degrees. The highest
temperature was 66 degrees on the 3rd and the lowest temperature
was 19 degrees on the 15th. There were 16 days when the
temperature dropped to 32 degrees or below.

Total rainfall for January was 6.13 inches, which is 1.18 inches
above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.07 inches on
the 2nd and 3rd. There were 16 days with measurable rainfall.
There were 4 days with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was
45 mph on the 12th.

The February outlook for Middle Tennessee from the Climate
Prediction Center favors above normal temperatures and above
normal precipitation.
