...Climate Summary for September, 2022...

September was a dry month across Middle Tennessee, especially the
latter half of the month when very little rain fell. There was
both record heat and also a much-welcome cool spell during the
month's final days.

In Nashville, the average temperature was 73.4 degrees, which was
three-tenths of a degree above normal. The average high
temperature was 85.0 degrees and the average low was 61.7 degrees.
The highest observed temperature was 100 degrees on the 21st. Not
only did this establish a new record high for that date, but it
was also the latest triple-digit reading in Nashville's history.
The lowest observed temperature was 44 degrees on the 27th. There
were 6 days when the temperature reached 90 degrees or better.

Rainfall for September was only 1.43 inches. This is 2.37 inches
below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 0.69 inches on the
2nd and 3rd. There were just 6 days on which measurable rainfall
occurred. Over the final 19 days of the month, only 0.01 inches of
rain were measured.

There were 4 days with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust was
34 mph on the 28th.

In Clarksville, the average temperature was 71.3 degrees, which
was seven-tenths of a degree above normal. The average high
temperature was 83.9 degrees and the average low was 58.8
degrees. The highest observed temperature was 99 degrees on the
20th. The lowest observed temperature was 42 degrees on the 27th.
There were 3 days when the temperature reached 90 degrees or
better.

Rainfall for September was only 2.13 inches. This is 1.34 inches
below normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1.37 inches on
the 11th. There were just 6 days on which measurable rainfall
occurred. Over the final 19 days of the month, only 0.05 inches of
rain were measured.

There were 3 days with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust
was 34 mph on the 3rd.

In Crossville, the average temperature was 65.2 degrees, which
was 1.8 degrees below normal. The average high temperature was
75.6 degrees and the average low was 54.8 degrees. The highest
observed temperature was 87 degrees on the 21st. The lowest
observed temperature was 38 degrees on the 27th and 28th.

Rainfall for September was 3.72 inches. This is 0.42 inches below
normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.07 inches on the 3rd
and 4th. There were just 7 days on which measurable rainfall
occurred. Over the final 19 days of the month, only 0.03 inches of
rain were measured.

There were 3 days with thunderstorms and the fastest wind gust
was 29 mph on 3 separate days.

The Middle Tennessee outlook for October from the Climate
Prediction Center favors above normal temperatures and below
normal rainfall.
