...Climate Summary for August, 2021...

August was a wet month across Middle Tennessee. It was also a
month in which we managed to avoid excessive heat. The month began
with a pleasant cool spell and ended with the remnants of
Hurricane Ida bringing heavy rain to the mid state.

In Nashville, the average temperature for the month was 80.6
degrees. That's 0.9 degrees above normal. The average high
temperature was 89.9 degrees and the average low temperature was
71.3 degrees. The highest temperature in August was 98 degrees on
the 25th, and the lowest temperature was 62 degrees on the 4th and
5th. There were 16 days when the temperature reached 90 degrees or
above.

Rainfall for August added up to 7.05 inches, which was 3.26 inches
above normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 2.36 inches on the
21st. Nashville also measured 2.32 inches on the 31st. There were
14 days with measurable rainfall and 11 days with thunderstorms.
The fastest wind gust was 45 mph on the 13th.

In Clarksville, the average temperature for the month was 78.5
degrees. That's 1.1 degrees above normal. The average high
temperature was 87.9 degrees and the average low temperature was
69.1 degrees. The highest temperature in August was 95 degrees on
the 25th and 26th, and the lowest temperature was 57 degrees on
the 5th. There were 13 days when the temperature reached 90
degrees or above.

Rainfall for August added up to 6.91 inches, which was 4.01
inches above normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 2.70 inches
on the 21st. Clarksville also measured 2.20 inches on the 31st.
There were 8 days with measurable rainfall and 7 days with
thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was 39 mph on the 8th.

In Crossville, the average temperature for the month was 73.5
degrees. That's 0.6 degrees above normal. The average high
temperature was 82.5 degrees and the average low temperature was
64.5 degrees. The highest temperature in August was 90 degrees on
the 25th, and the lowest temperature was 57 degrees on the 5th.

Rainfall for August added up to 6.16 inches, which was 2.55
inches above normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 1.91 inches
on the 31st. There were 11 days with measurable rainfall and 13
days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was 28 mph on the
14th.

Looking ahead, the outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for
Middle Tennessee for September calls for below normal
temperatures and above normal precipitation.
