...Climate Summary for September, 2020...

September, 2020 saw a pleasant cool-down toward the end of the
month and was drier than normal except for one significant
rainfall event on the 13th that caused flooding in some areas.
This is in contrast to September, 2019, in which a summer-like
heat wave lasted the entire month and into October before abating.

In Nashville, the average temperature was 72.6 degrees, which was
1.1 degree above normal. The average high temperature was 82.5
and the average low was 62.7. The highest observed temperature was
92 degrees on the 10th and 11th. The lowest observed temperature
was 48 degrees on the 30th. There were 7 days when the temperature
reached 90 or above. The last such occurrence was on the 12th.

Total rainfall for the month was 3.80 inches. This was 0.39 inches
above normal. Of this total, 3.27 inches occurred on the 13th.
There were 8 days with measurable rainfall.

There were 4 days with thunderstorms, and the highest wind gust
was 29 mph on the 17th.

In Clarksville, the average temperature for September was 69.8
degrees. This was three-tenths of a degree below normal. The
average high was 80.0 and the average low was 59.5. The highest
temperature for the month was 91 degrees on the 11th and the
lowest temperature for the month was 45 degrees on the 30th. There
were only 2 days when the temperature reached 90 degrees or more,
and none after the 11th.

Total rainfall for the month was 1.81 inches. This was 1.72 inches
below normal. Of this total, 1.15 inches occurred on the 2nd.
There were 7 days with measurable rainfall.

There were two days with thunderstorms, and the highest wind gust
was 44 mph on the 2nd.

In Crossville, the average temperature for September was 66.5
degrees. This was seven-tenths of a degree below normal. The
average high was 75.7 and the average low was 57.3. The highest
temperature for the month was 86 degrees on the 11th and the
lowest temperature for the month was 42 degrees on the 22nd.

Total rainfall for the month was 3.01 inches. This was 0.87
inches below normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 0.75 inches
on the 24th. There were 8 days with measurable rainfall.

There were 5 days with thunderstorms, and the highest wind gust
was 29 mph on the 3rd.

The outlook for October for Middle Tennessee from the Climate
Prediction Center calls for below normal temperatures and below
normal rainfall.
