...April, 2020 was cooler and generally wetter than normal...

April, 2020 turned out to be only slightly warmer than March,
with several frosty mornings lasting through most of the month. It
was also wetter than normal. In fact, Crossville recorded its 7th
wettest April ever.

In Nashville, the average temperature for the month was 58.1
degrees. That's 0.9 degrees below normal. The average high
temperature was 69.8 degrees and the average low was 46.4. The
warmest temperature was 85 degrees on the 8th, and the coolest
reading was 30 degrees on the 15th. That was the only day in
which a freezing temperature was recorded.

Rainfall added up to 4.82 inches. This was 0.82 inches above
normal. There were 14 days with measurable precipitation, and one
day with an inch or more. That occurred on the 12th, when 2.23
inches of rain was measured. That's nearly half the monthly total.
There was also a trace of snow on the 14th.

There were 4 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was 48
mph on the 29th.

At Clarksville, the average temperature for April was 55.4
degrees. This was 2.2 degrees below normal. The average high
temperature was 67.0 degrees and the average low was 43.7. The
highest temperature for the month was 81 degrees on the 7th and
8th, and the lowest temperature was 27 degrees on the 15th. This
was the only day in which a freezing temperature was recorded.

Total rainfall for April was 3.72 inches. This was 0.75 inches
less than normal. There were 12 days with measurable
precipitation, and one day with an inch or more. That occurred on
the 12th, when 1.17 inches of rain was measured.

There were 5 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was
53 mph on the 8th.

At Crossville, the average temperature for April was 51.9
degrees. This was 3.9 degrees below normal. The average high
temperature was 62.9 degrees and the average low was 40.8. The
highest temperature for the month was 76 degrees on the 6th, and
the lowest temperature was 29 degrees on the 11th. This were 4
days in which freezing temperatures occurred.

Total rainfall for April was 8.67 inches. This was 3.85 inches
above normal. The most rainfall in one day was 4.17 inches on the
12th. This is the most ever recorded in Crossville in one day
during the month of April. There were 16 days with measurable
precipitation, and 2 days with an inch or more.

There were 6 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was
49 mph on the 29th.

The May outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for Middle
Tennessee calls for near normal temperatures and near normal
precipitation.
