...January, 2020 was warmer & wetter than normal...

Last month was several degrees warmer than normal, and with above
average rainfall. In fact, 26 out of 31 days were warmer than
normal in Nashville, and of those 26 days, 11 were above normal by
10 degrees or more. Overall, the average temperature was 45.0
degrees, which is 7.3 degrees above normal. The average high was
53.2 degrees and the average low was 36.9. The highest temperature
observed during January was 71 degrees on the 11th, and the
lowest temperature was 20 degrees on the 20th and 22nd. Freezing
temperatures were observed on 8 days.

Total rainfall for January was 5.08 inches. That's 1.33 inches
more than normal. Measurable precipitation was observed on 14
days, and twice there was an inch or more. The greatest 24-hour
rainfall was 1.51 inches on the 11th. Only a trace of snow was
observed, and that fell on the 20th.

The highest wind gust was 52 mph on the 11th. There were 3 days
with thunderstorms. Only 3 days were marked by clear skies. It was
partly cloudy 11 days, and cloudy the remaining 17 days.

At Crossville, the average temperature was 41.5 degrees, which is
5.7 degrees above normal. The average high was 49.0 degrees and
the average low was 33.9. The highest temperature was 65 degrees
on the 11th and the lowest reading was 16 degrees on the 20th and
22nd. Freezing temperatures were observed on 18 days.

Rainfall for the month was 7.04 inches, which is 2.28 inches above
normal. Measurable precipitation was observed on 14 days, and
there were two days with an inch or more. The greatest 24-hour
rainfall was 1.72 inches on the 2nd.

The highest wind gust was 47 mph on the 11th. Thunderstorms were
observed on 2 days. There were 8 days with clear skies. Nine days
were partly cloudy and the remaining 14 days were cloudy.

At Clarksville, the average temperature was 41.8 degrees, which
is 6.0 degrees above normal. The average high was 49.8 degrees
and the average low was 33.7. The highest temperature was 70
degrees on the 15th and the lowest reading was 16 degrees on the
21st. Freezing temperatures were observed on 13 days.

Rainfall for the month was 5.04 inches, which is 1.73 inches
above normal. Measurable precipitation was observed on 14 days,
and there was one day with an inch or more. The greatest 24-hour
rainfall was 1.85 inches on the 11th.

The highest wind gust was 47 mph on the 11th. Thunderstorms were
observed on 3 days. There were 9 days with clear skies. Seven
days were partly cloudy and the remaining 15 days were cloudy.

The monthly outlook for February for Middle Tennessee by the
Climate Prediction Center calls for a continuation of above normal
temperatures and precipitation.
