...The end of a warm, wet July...

July, 2020 was warmer and wetter than normal across Middle
Tennessee. A prolonged stretch of heat and humidity covered most
of the month, but the mid state also experienced its share of
thunderstorms.

In Nashville, the average temperature was 83.1 degrees. This is
3.6 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 93.5
degrees and the average low was 72.6 degrees. The warmest
temperature was 98 degrees on the 19th and 20th. The coolest
reading was 67 degrees on the 12th. There were 29 days when the
temperature reached 90 degrees or better, including the final 19
days in a row.

Total rainfall for July was 4.42 inches. This is 0.78 inches above
normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1.45 inches on the 28th.
There were 12 days with measurable rainfall and 1 day with an inch
or more.

There were a remarkable 20 days with thunderstorms, including the
last 12 consecutive days. The fastest wind gust was 40 mph on the
20th.

Clarksville wasn't nearly as warm as Nashville, but it was a great
deal wetter. The average temperature was 79.9 degrees, which is
1.8 degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 89.6
degrees and the average low was 70.3 degrees. The warmest
temperature was 93 degrees on the 20th and 24th. The coolest
reading was 66 degrees on the 14th and 15th. There were 20 days
when the temperature reached 90 degrees or better.

Total rainfall for July was 8.21 inches. This is 4.29 inches
above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 1.96 inches on
the 12th. There were 16 days with measurable rainfall and 3 days
with an inch or more.

There were 16 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was
40 mph on the 16th, 20th and 29th.

Finally, at Crossville -- always the cool spot -- finished the
month with an average temperature of 75.5 degrees. That's 0.9
degrees above normal. The average high temperature was 85.1
degrees and the average low was 65.8 degrees. The warmest
temperature was 90 degrees on the 20th and 21st. The coolest
reading was 61 degrees on the 14th.

Total rainfall for July was 7.73 inches. This is 2.58 inches
above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.20 inches on
the 31st. There were 16 days with measurable rainfall and 4 days
with an inch or more.

There were 17 days with thunderstorms. The fastest wind gust was
31 mph on the 31st.

The outlook for August across Middle Tennessee from the Climate
Prediction Center calls for cooler-than-normal temperatures with
normal to above-normal precipitation.
