...Warmest May on Record in Nashville...

May of 2018 was the warmest May on record in Nashville since
records begain in 1870. The average temperature for the month was
75.5 degrees. It was made even more interesting by the fact that
it followed the 11th coolest April on record in Nashville, which
saw an average temperature of 55.3 degrees. The difference in the
monthly averages from April to May was a dramatic 20.2 degrees.
Based on the climate normals from 1981 to 2010 a jump of 8.5
degrees between April and May is a more normal amount. The highest
temperature of May was 93 degrees on the 15th. The coolest
temperature was 48 degrees on the 1st. Nine days during the month
saw high temperatures at or above 90 degrees.

A total of 5.43 inches of rain fell throughout the month. This
was only 0.07 inches below the normal amount. 1.83 inches of rain
fell on May 16th, breaking an old daily record of 1.61 inches.
There were 14 days throughout the month when at least 0.01 inch of
rain fell. There were no tornadoes in Middle Tennessee during
May. In fact, only 5 tornadoes have occurred in Middle Tennessee
this year as of June 1st.

...Second Warmest May on Record in Crossville...

The average monthly temperature in May in Crossville was 69.6
degrees. This is the second warmest May on record. The warmest
May occurred in 1962 when the average temperature was 69.9
degrees. This unusally warm May followed the 5th coolest April on
record for the city. One daily record high temperature was broken
on May 14th when the high reached 87 degrees, breaking the old
daily high of 86 degrees.

The total rainfall for the month was 6.15 inches. This was 0.79
inches above normal. The greatest 24 hour rainfall total occurred
on May 15th when 1.39 inches fell. There were 16 days throughout
the month when at least 0.01 inch of rain fell.
