...2018 a Near Average Year for Tornadoes in Middle Tennessee...

2018 was a near average year for the number of tornadoes across
Middle Tennessee, with a total of 17 tornadoes recorded throughout
the Mid State. Since 1995, the average annual number of tornadoes
in Middle Tennessee is around 17, although some years see many
more and others far less. Most of the tornadoes in 2018 occurred
during just two severe weather events - February 24th and November
5th-6th. Interestingly, no tornadoes touched down in April and
May, which climatologically are the peak months for tornadoes
across Middle Tennessee. Despite the average number of twisters,
the tornadoes in 2018 resulted in millions of dollars in property
damage, several injuries, and one death in Rutherford County on
November 6.
